Feeding One Million Kids with Old Computer Equipment

Feeding One Million Kids with Old Computer Equipment

Featured GuestKamel Shaath was trying to think of a way they could help give back during these hard times. He developed a program that will help business, save the Earth and feed over one million hungry kids.

The Junk-A-Juke program will enable businesses to upgrade their older storage systems for free. Many companies are still using old storage equipment (many of which are being "end of lifed" by Dell and HP) and in need of upgrades. These systems can cost into the hundreds of thousands (depending on capacity). Old storage solutions tend to be bulky and are costly to dispose of. As a result, more than 80% end up in landfills.

KOM Networks is doing this not only so they can keep the equipment from landfills, but they will break down the systems and sell the components or raw materials (though KOM's recycling partner). The money raised is going to help fight hunger through Feed The Children (www.feedthechildren.org). Businesses of any size can take advantage and they can get rid of any older computer equipment taking up space in closets, server rooms, data centers, etc. They can also write of the recycled costs as charitable giving. KOM arranges the pickup, recycling, and installation of a brand new Dell powered storage/archive solution.

This helps businesses with storage needs, the earth and hungry kids at the same time. KOM's goal is to feed one million hungry kids (15 million kids die every year of starvation).

“Sew What” is so important about innovative technology?

“Sew What” is so important about innovative technology?

    Featured Guest
Megan Duckett, Founder of Sew What, Inc. credits her progressive deployment of innovative technologies in transforming her part-time passion for sewing into a flourishing business and the go-to entertainment and event industries resource for custom theatrical draperies and fabrics. What began with a single sewing machine, now extends to include drapes and backdrops for music superstars including Green Day, Beyonce, Sting and even Lady Gaga.

When working with celebrities of such high caliber, first impressions are everything, which created a dilemma for Sew What?, a small company operating out of a little office in Rancho Dominguez, CA. Megan’s crowded workspace outside Los Angeles was hardly an appropriate venue for meetings with her superstar clients and she needed some means to present them with her designs.

Sew What? counts on technology to extend their sales reach, deliver topnotch customer service and to increase workforce productivity, so it was only natural that Megan would look to technology for a solution, implementing a remote video conferencing solution. “Now I can reach clients in Hollywood and Nashville from right here in my office,” says Megan.

Technology has helped Sew What? bring this innovative business model to market – a model that could be highly beneficial for other entrepreneurs and small companies that do business cross country and even internationally. Rather than spending a large portion of the budget on travel, they could be saving time and money in the long-term by investing in a technology solution.
