Ep. 160: Merle Hughes (Winner of the Be Our Guest contest!)
Show Notes:
Merle was the winner of our Be Our Guest contest back in March! He grew up in the 70’s and 80’s so he told me what it was like going to see the original Dawn of the Dead in theatres, how horror movies were basically big events growing up in Detroit, and what horror movie is based on his job. He also told me about his favorite streaming platform and how he’s been loving discovering the Jasons and Freddy’s of other countries!

Ep. 158: Mike Flanagan (Hush, Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, etc.)
Show Notes:
In this episode we discuss the journey Mike went from being a scared child to a horror-loving adult and how he used horror books as his entryway. He tells me why he thinks horror fans are the more empathetic people out there and the incorrect assumptions people make about the atmosphere of the set of a horror movie or series. We also talk about how his filmmaking has changed since getting sober and how he unwinds after a long day on set since making the change. He also answered some subscriber questions like what non-Stephen King book he’d most like to adapt, his favorite character he’s ever written, and you’ll never guess the inspiration behind the story of Oculus, and so much more!

In this episode we discuss how he got into horror way too young, why he started Chat Film Fest, and what it was like being one of the first film festivals to go virtual during the pandemic. He also told me which films he’s most looking forward to this year and the films that he tends to shy away from.
