It’s been almost two years since the coronavirus pandemic began, and we still do not know how the outbreak started. For a long time no one with serious credentials considered a lab leak as a possibility. A much less extravagant version of the cold food market looked indisputable - but not for Alina Chan, a postdoc researcher at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, Massachussetts.
Chan’s actions lead to a major shift of consensus last spring: the lab leak is now considered much less of conspiracy theory but something that demands a serious investigation.
