Let's Figure It Out is an inspirational place where you can hear the stories of every day people taking a leap. From the outside it might look like my guests achieved success easily overnight. But that's not the case. I'm going to take you behind the scenes so you can hear the real story and gain inspiration and encouragement, whether you're looking to switch jobs, change careers, feel supported as an entrepreneur, go on an adventure, or gain a new perspective to move your life forward. Let's Figure It Out features relaxed, soulful, brave conversations and also shorter podcasts I like to call…wait for it… "Shorts"…with me popping in solo to provide quick tips along the way.

This podcast is in no way going to give you a roadmap for success. The closest you will get, is hearing us talk about how the secret to figuring out something is letting go, releasing and knowing the answers will come to you, even if you have a few missteps along the way. It's when we loosen the grip and have some fun that the struggle diminishes and the answers start to flow.

My intention is to bring you fun, thoughtful, real conversations with leaders who figured out how to make a life change, and used their story to move themselves forward.

This is Let's Figure It Out.

    Test Prep

    Test Prep

Eva Addae - I'm thrilled to welcome Eva Addae back to the podcast. Eva is the Co-Founder and Co-Owner of Summit Prep, a tutoring company based in Summit, New Jersey. As you may recall, Eva was a guest on podcast #28 in December 2019, before the world turned upside down.

Today we come back together to talk how the pandemic is affecting standardized testing and what those tests look like going forward as of now.

If you have a child who is a junior or senior in high school, you're going to want to tune in for this episode.

Eva and I have been talking about doing this episode since March, and we bring it to you today as there are more finalized details to share. Please do remember to reach out to Eva and look at the testing sites for up to date information as you progress on your testing journey.

I encourage you to go back to episode 28 to hear more about Eva and her tutoring company's "whole person" approach - where they aim to show students love, respect, and empathy in order to cultivate their humanity as well.

Eva is a graduate from the University of Chicago. Following some time in the corporate world, she discovered her passion for teaching when she led a few local students in achieving incredible success on their SATs & ACTs.

Dissatisfied with the “one size fits all” approach to tutoring, Eva set out to create modern teaching methodologies, techniques and motivating systems that reflect the same process.

Along with her business partner, David, they developed the company’s Adaptive Learning Indexes from over 20 years of past SATs & ACTs.

A decade and hundreds of students later, she proudly boasts an average score increase of 8 points on the ACT and 220 points on the SAT.

Her personal philosophy is “only by knowing how one learns can knowledge be imbued and the joy of education discovered.”

Today we talk about standardized testing during the pandemic.

Jan Hines - NJ Sharing Network - Today I welcome Jan Hines to the podcast. Jan Hines is the Assistant Director of Transplant Community Relations at The Sharing Network in New Providence New Jersey. NJ Sharing Network is the non-profit organization responsible for the recovery and placement of donated organs and tissue for those in need of a life-saving transplant.

I met Jan a few months ago and was amazed at the work she does at NJ Sharing Network. It is then that I learned she is the brainchild behind the 5K Celebration of Life held annually with over 15,000 participants.

Pre-pandemic Jan invited me to tour the facility and we sat down for our podcast chat. The events Jan references have changed to accommodate our world today.

This weekend, you can participate virtually in their 2020 5K Celebration of Life - where they will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event.

Join me in my conversation with Jan and be inspired.

Let's figure it out with Jan Hines.

Jen Milnes - In honor of Earth Day I'm excited to welcome Jen Milnes. Jen's practice focuses on Sustainability - as an Executive Coach she helps women have sustainable careers and she's also a Sustainability Consultant, educating people how to make healthier choices for themselves and the Earth.

Jen believes "Sustainable" is a way of life not just in protecting our environment but also in caring for and nurturing ourselves.

Jen spent over 15 years in corporate retail leading global strategic, analytical, and operational roles. While her jobs were rewarding for a long time, she felt the need to shift and make a change to impact the world in a different way. After a decade of coaching her team one-on-one and facilitating personal and team development sessions, she began the road to getting certified as an Executive Coach. This, combined with her experience living on the west coast and experiencing a more earth friendly, sustainable culture, fueled her shift to focus on sustainability.

Today we talk about what having a sustainable career and lifestyle look like. And to help forward your green efforts, we're talking about how you can easily compost and decrease your footprint.

Let's Figure it Out with Jen Milnes.

    Motherhood

    Motherhood

Diana Spalding - Motherly - Today I welcome Diana Spalding to the podcast. Diana is a midwife, the Digital Education Editor at Motherly, and the author of the newly released book, hot off the presses this week, The Motherly Guide to Becoming Mama: Redefining the Pregnancy, Birth, and Postpartum Journey.

THIS is the resource I wish I had when I was trying to get pregnant, was pregnant and after I had my babies.

According to Motherly's 2019 State of Motherhood survey, 85% of mothers believe our society does not do a good job of supporting them. Motherly asked thousands of women in their community what they needed in a pregnancy and birth book and also consulted with dozens of experts - Ob-gyns, Fertility Specialists, Pediatricians, Doulas, Lactation Consultants, and more. This collective wisdom shaped The Motherly Guide to Becoming Mama.

Today I speak with Diana Spalding about how motherhood leads you to super powers you never knew you had. We dive into the power of making mistakes and creating boundaries to be a better mom. We talk about coming to motherhood with love, not fear, and of course we dive into the book.

And we check in with Diana about pregnancy during the pandemic and she offers inspirational words for pregnant women and moms to take care of their physical and mental well-being during this time.

Motherly is redefining the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey and I hope today's podcast and the book provide you with the support and strength you need whatever stage you are at - before, during or after pregnancy.

Let's Figure It Out with Diana Spalding.
