EP7 PT 2 NKD with Lusiano Afeaki - Aligning Polynesian culture, traditions and values to create an impactful life and business

EP7 PT 2 NKD with Lusiano Afeaki - Aligning Polynesian culture, traditions and values to create an impactful life and business

We continue the story and journey of Crunch Fitness co-owner, Lusiano Afeaki. Starting from painting the walls in a gym, to training people and then developing the skills to motivate clients and lead his own gyms, Lusiano shares so much knowledge and experience for anyone who is driven to pursue their own dreams.

In part 2, we speak to Lusiano about his time in Hong Kong and how he developed his passion for the health and fitness industry. Although this wasn't his initial plan, his potential to impact and transform the lives of his clients through exercise was too strong to pass up. We have a cool discussion about having fear but doing it anyway and overcoming the internal and external noise. Lusiano talks about how the alignment of his upbringing, Tongan culture and faith play such a big part in how he goes about his business. Lusiano also gives an insight into the challenges of starting up a gym and balancing family life, especially after finding out his son had cerebral palsy. As challenging as these experiences were, Lusiano shares how it has all led to the kind of family man and business leader he is today.

EP7 PT 1 NKD with Lusiano Afeaki - Aligning Polynesian culture, traditions and values to create an impactful life and business

Growing up in Western Sydney, hearing the words 'Tongan, Samoan, Fijian, Maori, Niuaen' and 'business owner' wasn't a common occurrence (if at all for that matter). This is why we really wanted to get our next guest on and learn about his journey to becoming one of the most successful businessmen in the fitness industry. In this episode, we are joined by fellow Tongan and co-owner of Crunch Fitness, Lusiano Afeaki. He and his business partner have crossed paths with the likes UFC boss Dana White, Madonna and even Jackie Chan. We talk about how he got to Hong Kong where he learnt much of his trade in the fitness industry and how his Tongan culture plays a role in how he executes creating a culture within his gyms. Getting Lusiano on the show was of interest to us as majority of the Pasifika people in our networks were from the sporting arena. As a podcast, we are passionate about sharing the journeys of our Pasifika people in order to show younger generations the many paths that they can pave for themselves if they back themselves and put in the work.

In Part 1, Lusiano takes us through his childhood and upbringing in Tonga and New Zealand. He shares how his Tongan culture, traditions and values played a role in developing him into the person he is today. We also dive into the importance of identity, masculinity and some of the challenges Polynesian youth may have with their own identity due to the ever changing world we live in today. All of this lays a foundation for what we go into in Part 2, which is the business aspect and lessons Lusiano takes us through. Keep an eye out on our socials for when this is released.
