    Should Auld Aquaintence Be Forgot

Welcome back to Saucy but Sweet with Ali McPherson!  This is our last episode of 2023, and to celebrate the end of an eventful year and beginning of another, we will discuss some of the highlights and downfalls of the past year. We will be diving into what created some of the highest of the highs and lowest of the lows. If you had the year of your life, cheers! If this is a year that proved to be incredibly difficult for you, then we hope this episode is exactly what you need at this time. We aren’t here to sugarcoat anything, but we also don’t want to fill the episode with dread and sourness.

For this bonus episode of saucy gems and bittersweet convos we will be joined by journalist and podcaster Sevanny Campos! Sevanny is the host of the podcast Major League Deals she co-hosts with another former guest of Saucy but Sweet, Korey Matthews.

Follow Sevanny Campos @SevannyCampos on IG and Twitter.

Listen to the end to hear a mini end of year segment featuring some of our former guests.

    Cheers!

    Living on the Rocks

    Living on the Rocks

Welcome back to Saucy but Sweet with Ali McPherson! We are back for a bonus episode. While the podcast has been on season break our host has had her ear to the pavement, not just as a journalist but a woman who just can’t pass away good tea.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have heard about the whole Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith debacle.  You may remember the episode, “The Other Side of a Slap” from season 3 where the host talked about Will slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.

Well, this week, the host will be discussing Will and Jada once again but this time less about the slap and more about their marriage on the rocks and what her controversial book tour for her book titled “Worthy” exposes about modern marriage at large. The host will be joined by the fabulous Keturah Kendrick for the second time this season. Keturah is a freelancer and author of the book, “No Thanks, Black Female, and Living in the Martyr-Free Zone.”

Joy is Still Resistance Part I

Joy is Still Resistance Part I

We are back, and just in time for one of the most significant and important months of the year. This is the month that marks the beginning of summer, where we celebrate Juneteenth and of course the month where we celebrate and applaud the LGBTQ+ community for standing up for what is right. This month all over the world Pride parades take place, not just filled with those in the LGBTQ+ community but with allies who feel a deep tie to the community. The best thing about this month is that no matter where you come from, or what language you speak, we are all uniting for a group that is constantly under attack and choosing to stand beside them rather than judging or simply turning away when the conversations get a bit too close for comfort. This week, for part 1 of Joy is Still Resistance, the host will be chatting with the fabulous Terrence Fraser (he/him) who is a journalist who alongside the host attended the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism and is currently an associate producer for Zero Point Zero. Later on, the host will feature an up-and-coming R&B soul artist for this week’s Saucy but Sweet Tune of the Week.

    Live From Coachella Part 2

Welcome back to Saucy but Sweet with Ali McPherson. This week you all are in for quite a treat once again. As you know festival season is in full flux! During our most recent episode, the host spoke with Yasmine Jameelah about the beauty of festival season and talked about making the exciting trek to the world's most popular festivals. The trip was a success, such a success that the host decided to dedicate another episode to the best and worst moments of Coachella. Just as there were highs, there were also lows, as some who have been paying attention to the latest coverage know about.

The host traveled to Coachella with a few talented and amazing journalists, some writing for outlets like the Root, Cosmopolitan and Rolling Stone. To discuss all that went down during weekend 1 of the festival, the host will be joined by the fabulous Sage Anderson (he/they) who is a tech editor for Rolling Stone Magazine. Towards the end of the episode we will hear live footage from the festival for Sage’s top performances.

Correction: R&B singer H.E.R. curates Lights Out Festival. It has taken place in California and New York City.

Live at Coachella montage, performances incorporated in the episode:

    Live From Coachella Part 1

    Live From Coachella Part 1

Welcome back to Saucy but Sweet with Ali McPherson. This week you all are in for quite a treat. It is Coachella season! I’m sure most of our listeners know all about the impactful and booming California music festival that has basically become a household name but for those of who do not know, it is a music festival, where artists who are the best of the best perform on a massive stage in front of thousands of fans. These fans come from all over the world to unite for their love of music, food and culture. It is essentially a party in the desert. Coachella Valley is where the magic happens.

Unlike Vegas, what happens in Coachella does not stay in Coachella, it is packed with press people and style magazines for days. It’s as much about fashion and culture as it is about who is performing. We will be discussing not just what makes Coachella one of the most impactful festivals in the world, but other festivals that may be geared towards specific groups of people and why those festivals are impactful as well. There is AfroPunk, the Essence Fest, and so many others that many are buying tickets for as we speak. The summer is the season of festivals, and Coachella typically sets the scene. We will be joined by an incredible guest and friend to the podcast Yasmine Jameelah to talk about the significance of these festivals and later on in the episode the host will be including live footage and her favorite moments from Coachella weekend 1.

Live at Coachella montage, performances incorporated in the episode:

    Becky G

    Rosalia

    Rosalia and Rauw Alejandro

    Burna Boy

    Bad Bunny

    Frank Ocean
