Linking Your Thinking: Personal Knowledge Management w/ Nick Milo (TPS387)

In today’s episode, we’re going be diving into the world of Personal Knowledge Management

This is a topic that is super-hot right now, and linked editing tools like Obsidian, Roam, and others are having an impact in a way that I haven’t seen since the early Evernote days.

There’s definitely something big going on here, and we’ve wanted to do an episode on it for quite some time, and there’s no one better to talk about it than Nick.

Even if you don’t have kids (student-age or otherwise), there’ll be lots of productivity tips that can help anyone.

How To Say No: Set Boundaries and Create Win-Win Situations (TPS384)

How To Say No: Set Boundaries and Create Win-Win Situations (TPS384)

In today’s episode, we’re going to share how to set boundaries and SAY NO.

This is the last episode of 2021. If you could set one intention for this upcoming year, a great one is to say No to more things to prevent yourself from being overcommitted.

It’s hard for a lot of us - me (Brooks) included. Saying no is my productivity kryptonite.

You find yourself overwhelmed with everything you need to do, and you find it hard to find time the work on the things you WANT or NEED to.

You end up missing commitments or dropping the ball because you can’t bring yourself to say no to things that realistically you aren’t going to be able to do (or do well).

How To Get Ready For The New Year (TPS383)

How To Get Ready For The New Year (TPS383)

In today’s episode, we’re going to share how to get ready for next year.

In our last episode, TPS382, we talked about how to review the past year, see how you did, and maybe come up with some changes you want to make for the next year.

In THIS episode, we are going to connect that to the upcoming year.

1: What are the things you need to do to wrap up this year?

2: How do you figure out what you’re going to do this upcoming year?

3: How do you set yourself up for success and be ready to start taking action when your winter holidays (if you have any) are over?

Maybe you find every year you make big yearly goals and at the end of the year they didn’t happen, or you make the same goals every year.

You feel uncertain about… everything. Things keep opening, then closing, then seem to get better.. Then not… you find it hard to plan when everything seems so uncertain.

You’re someone who’s been very consistent in your annual process, but need more tips, or want a tweak that can help achieve your goals faster.

The Four Day Work Week Experiment: Tips and Lessons Learned (TPS382)

The Four Day Work Week Experiment: Tips and Lessons Learned (TPS382)

Today’s episode is going to be a bit different.

From time to time we do episodes about how we do things at AE, for two reasons:

1: Going back to the early days of the blog in 2011 and the podcast in 2015, we get a LOT of questions about behind the scenes aspects of running AE

2: We are always doing experiments to try to improve the company, be more productive, and have happier team members

You know what they say – “Happy people are productive people”; so we'd like to share what we learn from these experiments with you

A few summers ago we did an experiment: what if we ran the company at just 4 days a week throughout the whole summer?

We had a vote and… SURPRISE… The team voted yes. 😂

We’ve done it a few times since, and are midway through another run at it, doing it during December for the first time.

If you’ve ever thought about trying a 4-day work week, we’ll share our lessons and insights with you that can help you decide if it’s right for you.

Perhaps you already do a 4-day work week and want more tips to make it more effective, we got you covered too.
