Today’s guest is Jared Beard. Jared is currently a Junior at the Purdue majoring in Professional Flight Technology and is also minoring in organizational leadership. With the end of the semester fast approaching, many students are on the hunt for internship and job opportunities. Interviewing can be a stressful process as many students compete and apply to the same jobs. So how can you stand out during your interview? This is why Jared is on the show today. Jared is currently in the interviewing process with Alaska Airlines for a summer internship. On this episode he will be sharing his personal experiences with interviewing and tips on how make a lasting impression on recruiters and interviewees. So, buckle up and get ready for take-off because without further ado, here is my conversation with Jared.
33. Shooting for the STAR Method
Today’s guest is Veronica Rahim. Veronica is a senior career services consultant here at the Purdue CCO. As a consultant, she helps students find their passions and future jobs. Have you ever been asked an interview question that starts with, “Tell me about a time…”? These are called behavioral-based questions, and in my opinion, are always tricky to answer. Because unlike traditional questions that may ask for you to list your strengths and weaknesses, behavioral questions call for students to describe specific times they have had to overcome problems, use specific skills, or work in groups. Veronica is on the show today because she is going to talk about how behavioral-based questions can be answered by using the STAR method. The STAR method is a great approach as it can communicate student's skills and capabilities to an interviewer. So without further ado, here's my conversation with Veronica.
32. Traveling for an Internship
Today’s guest is Rachel Osborne. Rachel is currently a grad student who also attended Purdue for her undergrad, studying Industrial Engineering. Throughout her time at Purdue, Rachel has had multiple internships both in and out of state. These opportunities have led to amazing learning experiences, not only through the internships themselves but also through learning how live in a new state. I don’t know about you, but out of state opportunities have always sounded exciting, that is until you have to start planning the details. Like how do you find housing? Or, how do you find friends during the short time you have your internship? Through my conversation with Rachel, these questions and much more will be covered. She will share her personal experiences with spending internships in the Colorado Mountains and in the busy city of Atlanta. She will also share advice for any students planning or considering crossing state lines for job opportunities. So, without further ado, here is my conversation with Rachel.
