At UN-disciplined, we create a transdisciplinary space in which one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is discussed.
We invite an artist, an academic and an entrepreneur to the table to exchange stories, ideas and knowledge. By doing so, we stimulate cross-fertilization across disciplines and combine different perspectives to view multi-dimensional issues.

UN-disciplined is created by the Rotterdam Arts & Science Lab (RASL).

Where do we start to rethink work to become more sustainable and inclusive? w/ Merlijn Twaalfhoven, dr. Ginie Servant-Miklos, Deborah Allen Rogers

At this transdisciplinary roundtable, we talk about rethinking our conceptions of what work is, what it takes to change and how a creative mindset can help us get there.

We were blessed with the presence of the following guests:

Merlijn Twaalfhoven is a music composer and innovative creator of educational and multidisciplinary projects. His practice is based on tackling big societal problems with creativity. He is the founder of The Turn Club. This collective organization was created to bridge the gap between art, independent professionals, organizations and social issues. His latest book “Het is aan ons” explained why each of us should seek our inner artist’s mindset.

Ginie Servant-Miklos is an outspoken education expert. She focuses on problem-based learning methods and critical pedagogies. In her TEDx talk, she shares a bit more about her personal life and her non-profit called FairFight. She is currently working on a book chapter about environmentalism in which she takes a critical approach to the concept of sustainability.

Deborah Allen Rogers is an independent advisor and design director. She has two decades of experience in the fashion industry as a creative designer and executive director. Her strategic consultancy focused on creative solutions within branding, international portfolio development, and education. Deborah has been the lead in redesigning the education program of Braenwork Academy. She co-founded Find Out Why to inspire digital awareness and to empower digital navigation capabilities.

Created and hosted by Erik Vermunt & Marco Aperti.

The roundtable was recorded live at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.

    Introducing: the UN-disciplined podcast!

Are you excited about the release of the first UN-disciplined podcast? We are! RASL invites you to take a seat (or do whatever you want) and listen to the first pilot event where we explore how to use a transdisciplinary approach to talk and think about the Sustainable Development Goal n. 8, promoting inclusive and sustainable work for all.

This short teaser will set you up for the right mood thanks to a great audio piece by one of RASL’s own students: Ben Rittger. You can find it here.

Let it sink in and tune in next week for the whole episode.

    Enjoy!
