S4 Episode 6: Indian Whisky & Greedy Angels
Show Notes:
The Whiskey - Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky
46% ABV (92 Proof)
Price: $77.16 ($69.99 plus $7.17 tax)
100% malted barley
Aged in New American Oak and ex-bourbon barrels for at least 4 years
Tasting notes (courtesy of the website)
Appearance / Color: Golden yellow
Nose / Aroma / Smell: liquorice-bourbon notes (“near perfect bitter-sweet balance); burnt honeycomb and toffee
Flavor / Taste / Palate: richness and sheen to the enormous barely-oak sweetness; big bourbon taste with notes of liquorice and molasses sugar and barley
Finish: long, wonderfully layered oak offering variations of a sweet dry theme; a touch silky with some cream toffee at the death
“Most of the 189 million cases of Whisky produced in India isn’t what we would consider Whisky. Rather than being made from malted grains, it is made from molasses and is thick and very sweet. In fact, Whisky accounts for nearly 60% of the Indian-made foreign liquor market.”

S4 Episode 5: Parlez-vous Whisky?
Bastille Blended Whisky - http://www.bastillewhisky.com/
40% ABV
There are two expressions coming from the distillery - the blended whisky, which I’m drinking, and the Single Malt - the single malt being much more expensive - about $80 I think.
This retails for about $35-$40, and I got it for $20
The tasting notes from the distillery are as follows:
Color: Bright orange/amber in color
Nose: Orange Marmalade, Dried Apricot, Spice Cake, Pineapple Blossoms and Suede
Palate: Vibrant, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a long, Orange Bread Crust, Peach Cobbler, Peppery Spice and limestone accented finish.
“A remarkably fruity, exotic and enigmatic whisky that will make unique cocktails.”
Recipe:
The Bastille Sour
Bastille WHISKY 2oz
Elderflower Liqueur 3/4oz
Fresh Lemon Juice 3/4
One white egg
Serve in a rock glass

The Whisky - Penderyn Dragon Legend - Single Malt Welsh Whisky
43% ABV (86 Proof) - in the US (41% other places)
Price: $61.78 ($59.99 plus $5.74 tax plus $.05 DC bag tax)

Matured in specially reserved ex-bourbon casks made from American Oak, before being finished in ex-Madeira wine casks
Non chill filtered and no color added
Tasting notes (courtesy of the box)
Appearance / Color: Golden hues
Nose / Aroma / Smell: “fresh apples and citrus fruits intermingle with cream fudge and sultana raisins”
Fun fact - there are 3 different types of dried grapes
Raisins - type of grape that has been dried fro around 3 weeks; dark in color, have a soft texture, a sweet flavor and are typically larger than sultanas and currants
Sultanas - made from green seedless grapes and typically coated in an oil-based solution prior to drying to speed up the process; typically smaller than raisins and sweeter, juicer and lighter in color
Currents - made by drying a variety of small, seedless grapes for up to 3 weeks; due to size have a sweet, tangy, intense flavor
Flavor / Taste / Palate: smooth, delicate, sweet, fruit (both fresh and rich dried fruit), with a hint of bitterness
Finish: long, leaving an aftertaste of Madeira cake and sultanas
