Ep. 130 PA Humanities' Rain Poetry, Flora Spa & Aesthetic Bar, & In Case Yinz Missed It

Ep. 130 PA Humanities' Rain Poetry, Flora Spa & Aesthetic Bar, & In Case Yinz Missed It

Get ready to hear from 6 (!) different yinzers who are making their communities better places to be!

First, Tressa stops by the dedication celebration for Pittsburgh’s first Rain Poetry installment to chat with wonderful teaching artist, Karen Howard, and then with phenomenal muralists and old pals Shane Pilster & Max Gonzales. What is Rain Poetry? Well…PA Humanities engaged children from two Pittsburgh neighborhoods in a hands-on community poetry activity facilitated by teaching artists. Haiku are being installed in public spaces with a special rain-activated solution.
All it takes is a splash of water for the poems to sprout up all around as if by magic.

Then, Tressa sits down with the Owner of Flora Spa & Aesthetic Bar, Amber Shal, to chat about the Soa's renovation, what new services they offer specifically for health benefits, and why “self-care isn’t selfish”. Spa Director Maggie Gooch and Corcoran Collective’s Kelli McCoy join in the convo as well.

Ep. 129 Allegheny Family Network, The Chalking Dad, & Name That Neighborhood: Irwin or Millvale?

Tressa first has a lovely conversation with The Chalking Dad (Erik Greenawalt) about how his toddler-aged daughters got him started on a career that now takes him all over the world.

And then Tressa has a delighful and resonant chat with her older sister, Debbie Glover Jozwiak, who is the Chief Services Officer of the incredible Allegheny Family Network. AFN partners with families of children with behavioral health needs to improve their quality of life through peer-to-peer support, education, and advocacy.
And Don stops by for a round of Name That Neighborhood.

Ep. 128 Brandon Short from The Karli Short Better Tomorrow Foundation, Kindness Crate Notes, and In Case Yinz Missed It

Tressa has the honor and pleasure of welcoming Brandon Short, former NFL and Penn State linebacker, back to the show to talk about The Karli Short Better Tomorrow Foundation, which he co-founded with his wife, Mahreen. They created the Foundation in honor of their daughter, Karli, and her unborn child whom they lost to gun violence in 2021. This endowment helps students with financial needs who have been affected by gun violence. Their 3rd annual Gala is coming up on June 7th.

Also, Tressa shares notes from our Kindness Crate(s) which made stops at both Yinzerfest and The August Wilson Block Party last month :) And Don joins us for In Case Yinz Missed It.

Ep. 127 Yinzer Dogs' Larry Richert & Jim Krenn and In Case Yinz Missed It

Ep. 127 Yinzer Dogs' Larry Richert & Jim Krenn and In Case Yinz Missed It

Get ready for one fun episode...

Tressa has the delight of sitting down for a chat - and a lot of laughter - with Pittsburgh legends Larry Richert and Jim Krenn. They talk community, role models, doing good, yinzers, movies, Bruno Sammartino and more...

Larry and Jim, along with Dan Marino (yes, that Dan Marino), Doug Mariani, and Dick Roberts, are the owners of a new food truck in the 'burgh: Yinzer Dogs. But they're not just serving up hot dogs--they've got some amazing sammiches, bit-sized pierogies, and more...AND a portion of all of their proceeds go to local charities.

Larry Richert is the "The Voice of Pittsburgh". He has hosted the KDKA Radio Morning News since 2001, is the voice of NFL Films/Steelers Highlights, the Public Address announcer at Acrisure Stadium for the Steelers, and he's part of the Pitt Panthers Football network broadcast team. Larry has long been an ambassador for the city of Pittsburgh and was winner of the Vector’s Richard Caliguiri Award for that reason.

Jimmy Krenn rose from the ranks of stand-up comedians to become Pittsburgh’s premier comedian and broadcast personality, known for his 24-year run as host of the city’s top-rated morning show on 102.5 WDVE FM and for hosting his very own morning radio show on Q92.9FM.

He has been voted the Top Entertainer in the City by Pittsburgh Magazine 14 times and was nominated by BILLBOARD Magazine as one of the Major Market Personalities of the Year. He makes frequent television appearances, does several standing-room-only concert performances yearly and has performed with the likes of Jay Leno, Howie Mandel, Dennis Miller, and Jerry Seinfeld.
