Expanding Disciplines and Exploring Styles [with Spoonuel]

Expanding Disciplines and Exploring Styles [with Spoonuel]

This week we're visited by Spoonuel (Sam Poon): an actor, singer, dancer, producer, and audio engineer. He's performed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, at Carnegie Hall, other productions across the country, and feature film and television. Lately, however, Spoon has shifted his main focus from acting to music and is currently a student at the Berklee College of Music. Some of the key talking points of our conversation are exploring different styles through collaboration, the reason behind pseudonyms, the difference between art and content creation, and nepotism and mediocrity within mainstream media. Although Spoon is fairly young there's a lot to learn from him - I hope you enjoy the episode!

In our conversation we talked about tips and tricks for touring musicians, the evolution of DIY culture over time, and connecting communities across the country. Brian defines art as an expressive, meaningful and (usually) consumable extension of human experience. This was a great, insightful conversation - I hope you get as much out of it as I did!

For our second episode we're joined by Nick Papa, co-founder of Philadelphia's leading musician creative support team: Upandovr. Although he isn't too much of an artist himself his projects are driven by a deep-seated belief that, when it comes to art, you have to try to give as much as you take. In this episode we talk about project ideation, work-life balance, and staying flexible to overcome challenges and drive your mission forward.
