Hi, I’m Dax Shepard, and I love talking to people. I am endlessly fascinated by the messiness of being human, and I find people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. I invite you to join me as I explore other people’s stories. We will celebrate, above all, the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment. What qualifies me for such an endeavor? More than a decade of sobriety, a degree in Anthropology and four years of improv training. I will attempt to discover human “truths” without any laboratory work, clinical trials or data collection. I will be, in the great tradition of 16th-century scientists, an Armchair Expert.

    Flightless Bird: Renaissance Faire

In this week’s Flightless Bird, David Farrier throws himself back to the reign of Queen Elizabeth during the 1500s. Why? Because Americans love Renaissance Fairs. The whole idea of the Renaissance Fair started back in 1963 - when teacher Phyllis Patterson held an event for her students in her backyard. A few months later her and her husband Ron put on a bigger one - hosting about 8000 people. It kept growing - and in 1966 the official “Renaissance Pleasure Faire of Southern California” was launched. Farrier decides to head along to that very fair see what all the fuss is about.

When celebrities get vulnerable

I loved this podcast because the conversations seem to have knowledge but in a casual relaxed fashion rather than the conventional information dumping streams. I especially liked Monica and Jess love boys dialogues as they include very therapeutic and deep conversations which make the listener look into themselves in a birds eye view (as a therapist would). It helps people who are in the single category and are confused about themselves.

Love this podcast so much!

I have always been a fan of Dax, but this podcast just made me feel closer to him and loving him even more. This is such an intelligent, wonderful, interesting and relatable podcast - celebrities/famous guys are like us what?! I look forward to the episodes every week! Keep killing it Dax! Been following you since the start and I’m so excited this is doing as well as it is ♥️

Please have more people of colour!- edit, they did ♥️

Hey Dax! I love your podcast and I think you really go deep into the lives of your guests. My only little critism is that there aren't many people of colour on the podcast. Although I'm not from America myself, but I do like listening to stories of struggle/triumphs of brown people in the states. A little brown representation will make me real happy. Maybe start with Monica herself :)
