Voting is underway in the world’s biggest democracy. Prme Minister Narendra Modi is widely expcted to win a third terma and his nationalist BJP could even take a super majority in parliament. Guests Swasti Rao of the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies & Analyses and Chietigj Bajpaee of Chatham House’s Asia-Pacifc Programme joined DW’s security podcast, Global Eyes.

Shortly before his latest re-election, Russian President Vladimir Putin again hinted at the use of nuclear weapons, saying “weapons exist to be used.” Normally a threat to go nuclear from the head of state of the coungtry with the largest nuclear stockpile in the world should be concerning if not terrifying. Some of India´s most important rivers originate in China. That raises concerns about the possible weaponization of water resources. Especially, since conflict has been simmering for decades, as the border between the two countries is disputed, with frequent outbursts of fighting, as in December 2022.
