Red FM Celebrates Guts and Glory – Salute 71, we feature Major General Kuppanda Ponappa Nanjappa, AVSM, VrC, who commanded a company of the Kumaon Regiment and was assigned the task of capturing a well-fortified enemy camp along the East Pakistan border, which was a very vital operation. The officer led the troops with bravery, disregarding his own safety in the face of enemy fire, and was victorious, for which he was awarded the Vir Chakra. He recalls the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers on December 17, 1971, which contributed to the birth of a new nation.

Red FM Celebrates Guts and Glory – Salute 71, we feature Lt Gen SS Mehta, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, (Veteran), who commanded an armoured squadron that rolled into Dhaka.  Lt. Gen. Mehta remembers the epic battles of the 1971 India Pak War, who as a young Major, with the 63 Cavalry liberated Bangladesh. He reminisces the Indian Army’s greatest victory and the largest public military surrender after the Second World War, which led to the creation of the new nation.

Red FM Celebrates Guts and Glory-  Salute 71, we feature Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Veteran), Former Governor Mizoram, Former Governor Arunachal Pradesh. During the 1971 India Pak war, as the Adjutant of the 2nd Parachute Battalion, Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma was a part of  the sensational Airborne Assault, the Para Drop at Tangail. He was one of the first Indian soldiers to enter Dhaka, and make their way to Pakistan’s Commander, Lieutenant General AAK Niazi, carrying a message from the  Indian Major General Gandharv Nagra, subsequently leading to the Pakistani surrender.

Red FM Celebrates Guts and Glory – Salute 71, we feature Brig. Basant Kumar Ponwar, AVSM, VSM (Veteran). Amongst his several successful missions was to capture the Jamalpur Garrison, during the 1971 India Pak war. What followed was an intense four and a half hour battle,  resulting in the surrender of the enemy, leading to the liberation of Bangladesh.
