From Prisoner to Reform Movement Leader w/ Dorsey Nunn

From Prisoner to Reform Movement Leader w/ Dorsey Nunn

Before becoming a national leader in efforts to improve conditions for prisoners as well as people who’ve been recently released, Dorsey Nunn spent a decade behind bars. That experience spurred his fifty powerful years of political and legal battles for freedom and human rights, including as the founder of All of Us or None and the longtime Executive Director of Legal Services for Prisoners With Children. Nunn recently published his memoir, called What Kind of Bird Can’t Fly: A Memoir of Resilience and Resurrection, and he joins us to discuss it.

Resistance in Residence Artist: Annika Lewis

Resistance in Residence Artist: Annika Lewis

The mission of law & disorder is to expose, agitate and build a new world where all of us can thrive. But how do we get there? How do we build a world many of us have only seen in our dreams? That’s where we believe the artists come in. So, each week we feature an artist, holding down a weekly residency with us, helping us to imagine a different, more liberated world.
This week’s Resistance in Residence Artist is multitalented Danish performance artist Annika Lewis, whose piece “The Soul Catcher: Unmasking the Modern Predator” will open the 2024 San Francisco Interntional Arts Festival.

The High Cost of Prison Commissary w/ Elizabeth Weill-Greenberg

The High Cost of Prison Commissary w/ Elizabeth Weill-Greenberg

Anyone who has supported a loved one in prison knows that commissary prices for basic necessities and food to supplement the poor and scant provided meals inside are high. But how high? Our friends at The Appeal have recently published Locked In, Priced Out, a project that includes a first-of-its-kind database of prison commissary lists from 46 states. To discuss, we are joined by Elizabeth Weill-Greenberg, senior reporter for The Appeal, a worker-led nonprofit news organization. She writes on prison and jail conditions, and wrongful convictions.
