Are you single, childfree, and tired of the stigma attached to your 'spinster' status? Are you actually having an awesome time, loving your life because of the freedoms afforded to you as a result of being alone and not having kids? Or are you not quite there yet? Either way, this is for you. This is the podcast where we're going to reclaim the word spinster, where we're going to redefine what the word means, and where we're going to reimagine the outdated narrative around spinsterhood. Because the truth - the big secret that no-one seems to realise or acknowledge - is that, actually, being a spinster rocks. This podcast will also look at the subject of personal growth and how, as spinsters, we have the luxury of being able to spend time becoming the people we truly want to be; the best versions of ourselves. Because, after all, isn't that what we all want?Every week I'll release either a 'solo' episode in which I'll ruminate on the many different aspects of being single and childfree - and why they get to be brilliant - such as holidaying alone, living alone, identity, finding your purpose, being an auntie, freedom, opportunity and much, much more; or an episode with an array of fantastic guests with whom I'll be having interesting, inspirational and insightful conversations around the same themes. Follow me on Instagram @spinsterhoodreimagined for inspiration and information about upcoming episodes. E-mail me at lucy@lucymeggeson.com

The One Where I Talk To Solo Dating Advocate, Paul Ward - Part 1

The One Where I Talk To Solo Dating Advocate, Paul Ward - Part 1

In this week’s episode, I’m talking to the brilliant Paul Ward.

Paul - who goes by Great Kraken on social platforms - is a 43 year old Irishman who has gone through divorce and has used this experience to become an advocate for the importance of solo dating & men's mental health, and challenging society's obsession with romantic relationships. Paul is a firm believer that the most important relationship is with yourself, and that peace and contentment are the true keys to happiness. He also has his own podcast, Kraken’s Cabin.
Topics that Paul & I cover are:
Paul’s marriage at 21 that ended in divorce;long-term relationships, and why staying together ‘no matter what’ is not necessarily a good idea;how when we put everything into a relationship, we tend to forget who we actually are;Paul’s theory regarding the high suicide rates amongst men between 30 - 45 yrs;people’s fears around doing things by themselves;some tips for solo dating, and why it’s not ‘sad’;why independence is actually what makes us happy, not being co-dependent in a relationship;how we compromise things that are important to us when we’re part of a couple;how we give up our independence in relationships thinking that’s what we’re supposed to do;why Paul’s marriage came to an end;the things that we’re willing to sacrifice to make a relationship work;why it’s so important to make an effort on a solo date;the misguided idea that you can’t enjoy things if you’re on your own;why we don’t need other people to find our peace.

    Minisode Ep.102 - Journaling

    Minisode Ep.102 - Journaling

On this week's minisode, I'm talking about journaling.

Keeping a journal has become very trendy with the rise of the wellness movement, but are there actually benefits that make it a practice worth adding into our already busy lives? In my opinion, yes.

I've been journaling (on and off) for a few years now, although I'm not very consistent, and the way I journal tends to change like the weather. So...how should we journal, when should we journal, and why should we journal? Press 'Play' to find out more!

The One Where I Talk To Pro-Ageing Storyteller, Heidi Clements

The One Where I Talk To Pro-Ageing Storyteller, Heidi Clements

    ***TRIGGER WARNING***
In this episode, Heidi refers to two sexual assaults, one when she was a child.
In this week’s episode, I’m talking to the force of nature that is Heidi Clements.

Heidi is a 63 year old single, childfree woman living in the US. She loves fashion and she was a scripted writer who decided to use storytelling on social media as a way to get her message out about women over 50. She is passionate about changing the way the world looks at women over 50 reframing the narrative around older women.

Topics that Heidi & I cover are:
how Heidi believes that women are only valued for their sexuality and their appearance, and this needs to be changed;how once menopause hits, women are deemed to be ‘unfuckable’how she was molested as a child, and raped when she was 36;how Heidi no longer has any interest in sex, and the stigma around not having it;how having a partner has never been a priority for her, and it still isn’t;women ageing, and the term ‘anti-ageing’;how everything good in life comes when we let go of what other people think;why the failure isn’t not having a partner, it’s not loving yourself;the idea that ‘you don’t know real love’ until you’ve had a child;heartbreak, and how Heidi has experienced it multiple times;narcissism, and how she’s a magnet for narcissistic men;how Heidi hates going solo to weddings more than anything;the things that Heidi loves the most about being single;how Heidi isn’t afraid of ‘dying alone’ because she isn’t alone;loneliness, and the fact that Heidi rarely experiences it;the unprecedented growth of her social media accounts.Follow Heidi on Instagram:

Minisode Ep.101 - You Can't Change The Weather

Minisode Ep.101 - You Can't Change The Weather

On today's minisode, I'm talking about what's in our control, and what isn't.

Everybody knows that we can't change the weather. So why do we still let it affect our mood?

For every ounce of energy we expend thinking and worrying about things that aren't up to us, we should instead use it on the things that are.

    Thursday Thoughts - Complaining

    Thursday Thoughts - Complaining

On today’s Thursday Thoughts, Polly & I are talking about complaining.
We all love a good moan, but there’s a difference between getting something off your chest, and constantly complaining.
We all have a choice as to whether we want to be a ‘drain’ or a ‘radiator’; whether we set the thermostat in the room, or shift our state of being to the temperature of those around us.
We also have a choice about who we allow access to us. Are we surrounding ourselves with people who lift us up, or drag us down?
While it’s normal and necessary to have a good old rant sometimes, it’s important not to allow the negativity of complaining to become our norm.
We hope you’ll find something useful in here!
    Love,
    Polly & Lucy x
