Rebecca Tapp x Richie Harkham: Purpose Decoded & The Return On Resilience

Welcome to Another Episode Of Decoding Purpose.

For regular listeners - In series one of the Decoding Purpose podcast, you may remember that I interviewed an incredible thought leader by the name of Richie Harkham. For those who missed it - it's an episode worth digging up as Richie shares his incredible journey as a serial entrepreneur, a charity founder, a winemaker, and as one of the most resilient human beings I know. In fact - Richie's message is all about how we can leverage A Return On Resilience to thrive in crises, rapid change or uncertainty. Since appearing on Decoding Purpose last year Richie has made the leap into podcast land launching his own series earlier this year titled Return On Resilience. The name of the podcast speaks for itself.

A few weeks ago I was honoured when Richie asked me to come on his show as a guest. I loved every second of decoding the space in between resilience and the discovery of our life purpose, so today I wanted to share our conversation with you all. So, without further delay, come into my world, learn more about my journey into purpose but bring a pen, because this episode is yours. Richie and I unpack all of the tools you can use to unlock your purpose and hopefully become more resilient in doing so.

I hope you enjoy my interview with the one only Richie Harkham for his podcast - Return On Resilience.

Ryan Berman: Purpose & The Central Courage System

Ryan Berman: Purpose & The Central Courage System

Welcome to Another Episode of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.

Throughout the ages, people have searched for the precise alchemy of ingredients that constitute great leadership. Leadership of governments, communities and of course leadership in organisations, but most importantly personal leadership. Especially within an environment of global pandemics, political uprisings, emerging technologies and climate change. So what is that one ingredient so crucial to great leadership - which one floats to the top. The answer is undeniably courage.

It makes sense when we consider that we are living in an unwritten future - and it takes courage to be a pioneer of a story unwritten. And at this exact moment in time there are so many leaders, entrepreneurs, economists, scientists, innovators or inventors out there bravely redesigning, rewriting, and forming thoughts around the possibilities for an unknown future. They are the courageous people who are truly leading the way for all of us. None more so than those working on the development of a vaccine for Covid-19. That's courage...and with the current urgency attached to the outcome - its courage under fire.

We have seen people all over the world have the courage to call out toxic stories of the past, in order to heal society, flip perspectives, command action or forge the way for a more inclusive and purpose driven world whether that be through movements like Black Lives Matter, The Schools Strike for Climate or Me Too. It is here we see radical acts of bravery in the face of change. So I think it's fair to say that if we look at all of these examples it is not fear that brings about change, and nor it is fear that enables an authentic connection to purpose, but nor is it a lack of fear. It's the learned ability to see that fear and to bravely March on through. So how do we decode the central courage system that fundamentally drives the creation of a better world.

This brings me to today's guest - the incredible Ryan Berman. Ryan has more than 20 years in the courageous ideas space and an intimate understanding of the intricacies of emotional storytelling for the purposes of driving courageous change. He is the founder of Courageous brands, and also a social enterprise called Sock Problems. Ryan has had his methods featured in Entrepreneur, Fast Company, Inc and Forbes. Today he generously covers the learning's found in his book Return On Courage: A Business Playbook For Change.

Welcome to the podcast Ryan Berman.

Anneke van den Broek: Humanity And The Purpose Of Pets

Welcome To Another Episode Of Decoding Purpose.

With many of us slowly returning to the office, opposed to working from home, I figured it was a good time reflect on some of the silver lining moments of lockdown - and for those who have pets, I am sure one of the pleasures of working from home has been having the time with you fur baby by your side. After all, for the animal lovers out there our relationships with our cats, pooches, parrots, or whatever crazy critter fill our hearts - pets are our family and fill our hearts.

That is why today, I wanted to dedicate an episode to our furry friends, and an incredible woman who has spent her life decoding the purpose of pets. Her name is Anneke Van De Broke, and her mission is to ensure humanity is provided to all animals and to improve the lives of all humans through pets.

Anneke van den Broek is the multi-award-winning founder and CEO of beloved pet care brand Rufus & Coco, stocked in 9 countries and selling 2.5 products per minute. Phil Burton: Purpose - It's Human Nature

Phil Burton: Purpose - It's Human Nature

Welcome To Another Episode of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.

When it comes to guests, I am always intentional about finding people from all walks of life. This includes thought leaders, scientists, entrepreneurs, actors, artists...the list goes on! Why do I do it? Because in every conversation, there is a golden thread. I can look inside for the patterns...the codes of meaning, and in doing so, I can connect more deeply with one thing-our human nature. And that awesome because today's guest is also from chart topping music group Human Nature. His name...the one and only Phil Burton.

So what has Phil Burton got to say about purpose? What I want to tell you is that Phil's journey encapsulates what the golden threads of purpose are all about. His story is one that captures the power of a dream, the focus, the commitment and the discipline to do the work, it is a story about courage, taking risks, and showing up time and time again to do world-class work as an individual and as a team with one focus - the creation of harmonies and rhythm. It's a conversation that is bigger than the singing of a song - because its about the meaning of the music. The joy and the happiness shared with so many people over a career spanning more than 30 years. Finally, this is a story of deep humility, and Phil Burton has that in spades. He is one of the kindest people I know.

Now...I have something to confess. I am currently trying to make my introductions a little shorter with strict instruction from the shows producer but even if that wasn't the case and I had an hour to do this intro I still wouldn't get through the long list of award-winning hits, albums and shows produced by these Aussie legends. What I will say is Human Nature has been at the top of their game for more than 30 years, they have held a residence in Vegas for the last tens years with unprecedented success, and In November 2019 Human Nature were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

So without further delay lets pop on those dancing shoes and get ready to croon with none other than the Aussie music legend himself the one and only Phil Burton.

Melissa Neighbour: Reimagining The Purpose Of Cities

Melissa Neighbour: Reimagining The Purpose Of Cities

Last Friday I was excited to have my first interview live in the studio for quite a few weeks as restrictions started to ease off just a little. I was even happier for that person to be a friend, a colleague, and one of the world changing members of my work family from Future Crunch. That guest was none other than the queen of all cities - Melissa Neighbour.

To give you some context Mel is an environmental town planner, community builder and sustainability specialist. She is the Managing Director of Suburban Town Planners, a purpose-driven town planning consultancy and she has developed and implemented award-winning sustainable development projects across Australia. Mels mission is clear and that is to to activate sustainable forms of living in urban spaces of the future. She believes in a 21st century that works for everyone, and every thing, and that cities will be at the heart of that revolution.

In an age where we have seen cities completely isolated, or in some cases filled with violence or destruction (and that is not making any comment on the importance of why which is undeniable) - Im focussing only on the cities themselves - I very much hope that today's conversation about the purpose of cities is one that fills you up with love, hope and a sense of optimism about the power of our cities to create a more peaceful, abundant and beautiful world for all of humankind.

So without further delay - lets welcome Melissa Neighbour to the Decoding Purpose Podcast.

Wouter Bakker: GoodUp - The Bottom-Up Purpose Initiative For Organisations

Wouter Bakker: GoodUp - The Bottom-Up Purpose Initiative For Organisations

Welcome to another episode of The Decoding Purpose Podcast.

Over the last few weeks, I have taken part in a few webinars or podcasts where I have been asked one question. How can a company go about creating a purpose? My answer every time is that purpose in business is an HR function, rather than a CSR function. Unless the organisation has taken the time to understand the purpose of the individual within an organisation, claiming to be a purpose-driven company lacks a foundation. There is a return on investment, and there is a return on impact, both which are components of socially conscious business. But purpose itself is human, and that is why taking a bottoms-up approach to corporate purpose is at the heart of the next economy.

Today, I am excited to introduce our next guest. Wouter Bakker is the Chief Commercial Officer of Good Up based out of the Netherlands. GoodUp empowers companies to bring their social mission to life with technology to build an impactful, innovative, purpose-driven business with an engaged workforce. Their focus is to create bottom-up purpose initiatives within corporate organisations.

Through the Good Up Tech Platform Employees and partners start initiatives that they are passionate about within the platform. These initiatives are linked to the company purpose but also incorporate the skill set and talents that are unique to what creates meaning for the individual. On a personal note, this solution addresses one of the missing pieces for me in a conversation about purpose.

Before diving into today's conversations, I also want to let you know that I am excited to be hosting a webinar this Monday called Uncovering Purpose in the Turning Points as a part of the Get On Purpose Global Virtual Summit. Much of the conversation will be focussed around the tool I share to help people discover their personal purpose - The DNA of Purpose. My session will be at 8.00 pm Eastern Standard Time in Sydney, or for those of you in might tuning in from Amsterdam (or surrounding countries) that will be noon this Monday.
