Dartmouth Business as a Student — James Bell D'21

Diving deep into Student Entrepreneur career advice with Dartmouth Student D'21 — James Bell. Exploring how he navigated his career at Dartmouth and how he entered the Entrepreneurial world. We examine his day-to-day and get insights into how he managed to create his own business.
Henry is originally from Boston, Massachusetts. He studies economics modified with psychology at Dartmouth. James has been an economics 1 tutor and enjoys learning as he mentors his peers in squash and Dartmouth classes. James is the Captain of the Dartmouth Varsity Men's Squash team. In his Junior year, James was selected to the Academic All-Ivy Squash Team for his accomplishments on the court and in the classroom. While at Dartmouth, James first stepped into entrepreneurship by joining Lone Pine Repairs, a student-run iPhone repair company serving the Dartmouth community and the Upper Valley. James is also passionate about the outdoors and is a learning fellow in Environmental Change (EARS 6). He loves to fish, hike, rock climb, another outdoor recreation. This past fall, while participating in 3 Day Startup Dartmouth, worked with a team on an idea that combined both his passion for the outdoors and entrepreneurship. The project was a sharing platform for backyard spaces. After conducting market research and talking to potential users, James discovered that there was not as much of a customer need for the platform as originally believed and he has since transitioned and renamed the company Guider, to focus on providing a better scheduling and booking system for fishing guides. James is currently taking a leave term from Dartmouth to focus on Guider, find a co-founder with a compatible complementary skillset, and train for the 2021-2022 squash season.
