Frankie Knuckles Talks About Larry Levan With Lenny Fontana for BBC Radio Lenny Fontana - Stepped In Da House

    • Musica

When we where asked to produce The Legends of the Dancefloor Show for BBC Radio, I was asked to go to our friends in the business and get there accounts of the Great Larry Levan. Well Eddie Gordan and myself knew hands down that the Godfather of House needed to speak about his best friend. Frankie went to high school with Larry Levan and if anyone knew better about Larry, was Frankie. In the meantime, through Larry's radio documentary this brought me and Frankie closer, because now we shared something very personal. Frankie told me that he would not just speak to anyone about his friend Larry and that because he knew it was me that it would be done tastefully. Well on the week of Frankie's death of him passing on 03/31/2014. I decided to grab a part of the out take of our conversation and share it with the world. You will hear about us talking about the smoke and playing in the Italian Disco's and the chit chat.. That was Frankie always telling you how it is....

I would like to add this: Frankie was a great friend, a mentor, a fabolous DJ, and always supported me as a producer and dj. He always played and rocked my new productions and remixes very early on reel to reel tape before they came out on vinyl promo. I have very fond memories of him playing my records on Friday's at Sound Factory Bar. Its really funny to hear Frankie talk about being inspired by Larry Levan from the Garage. Many nights I left Sound Factory Bar after hanging in the booth with him to run home and rush to make music and dj all day and night feeling totally re-inspired....Frankie Knuckles to me is one of the finest Dj's to ever live, a true class act and after hearing him in his prime he would send you running home saying to yourself, "Now I need to step up my game."
Frankie Knuckles you are OUR #1 DJ.. You inspired all of us to travel the world and make quality house records... You will live on through your music. You taught us to always be humble and grateful for what we have. Thank you my friend....I will never forget you. Yours Truly Lenny Fontana
