2 episodi

In the beginning there were 2 turntables and a microphone. Those tools, coupled with a bag of spray cans, some linoleum and youthful expression, eventually gave birth to a movement. Today this movement is moving slower than ever due to the heavy traffic of mainstream media and narrowing paths of creativity that many choose to take. But fortunately there is still a lane available that allows this movement and its travelers to continue moving forward at a steady pace. That lane is Ill Street Grooves. Here on Ill Street we’re all about this movement we call Hip-Hop. We celebrate all aspects of it from the producer to the listener, the bomber to the art buyer, the needle to the groove and the major label artist all the way down to the local MC. Not only do we explore the direction music is currently heading in, but we also map it back to its roots in Funk, Reggae, Soul, Rock and Jazz. And every night on Ill Street is like a block party featuring performances and interviews with a wide range of artists, guest DJ sets, live music jam sessions, on-the-spot ciphers, and more. Every Monday night ease on down Ill Street from 10-11pm on 89.3fm WPFW in DC (or www.wpfw.org for a live feed online) and let us take you for a ride, or else…….you may end up in that damn traffic!

Ill Street Grooves At the Movies pt. 1

Been a long time people, but we're back to posting up eps.... we've had some changes since we last posted: Ill Street is now on for 3 hrs. on the 1st Saturdays of the month @ WPFW (9pm-12am) and we've since started a weekly web show on WLVS (ListenVision.com) on Thursdays (3pm-4pm) called "Cut Convention: Ill Street Edition"...

With that said, here's a new ep from 5/4/2013 @ WPFW ft. DJ RBI along with Prochi and Tamra aka DJ Intense on the mics. We scheduled an interview with up & coming hiphop & sports filmmaker Lamar McPerson, which in turn inspired a bit of movie soundtrack-related tunes to grace the playlist.

In addition we plunged knee-deep into a plethora of new & recent bangers for your listening pleasure, as well as invited Words Beats & Life INC DJ students to take us into the next wave of underground sound with a brief yet powerful DUBstep/TRAP set a lil later in the show.

A few Dollaz for the homie Kleph | 10.15.12

On October 15, 2012 Ill Street Grooves paid homage to a producer from the DMV region, the late Kleph Dollaz (a.k.a. Darrel Durand) of Petersburg, VA.  Formerly of the 90's hip hop act, Ill Biskits (once-signed to Atlantic Records), the MC/producer went on to work with acts such as NYC's Black Moon, Sean Price, Sadat X, and CA's own Rasco. He also continued to rep VA, joining forces with Richmond's Bear-One to form the Kontrol Freakz production crew and additionally collaborated with the likes of Lonnie B and Shawn Chappelle (Supafriendz), amongst many others. Sadly, he passed away in late August 2012. The Ill Street fam worked with Kleph last year and we're saddened by his transition to the next life. The homie Bear-One called in from Philly to help us reflect and to say a few words about his longtime friend. In addition to our dedication to Kleph, we invited legendary underground DMV producer Theory (curr. of The Package, formerly of Infinite Loop) into the station alongside personnel from The Beat Konductaz (a producer's competition & showcase) to celebrate his recent victory in the recent BK competition and remind listeners of backyard talent making moves in the business.Tracklisting 1) Black Moon - How We Do It2) Kleph Dollaz - Worship3) Kleph Dollaz - Agape ft. Lonnie B & Shawn Chappelle4) Ill Biskits - 22 Years 5) Ill Biskits - God Bless Ya Life ***Interview Break*** 6) Rasco - U Got the Time7) Far EXP - Never Change (Tru Skoool Mix)Additional uncredited music was provided by Theory as his beats were featured as part of his interview.
