    The Dreaded Curfew

    The Dreaded Curfew

There isn't a hard and fast rule around curfews. Every family has to figure out what works for them. The key to setting realistic curfews that both parents and teens can abide by is clear and consistent communication.

As teens start to go out independently with friends in the evenings and on weekends, parents can begin to feel like they are losing control. They might not know who their child is spending time with or what they are doing.

Remember, it is OKAY to ask your teen questions. They may not like it, but it is important to establish trust with your teen as they transition to young adults. Who they are hanging out with? Where are they going? Will there be a parent or a chaperone at house parties? What are the consequences for not returning at the established time?

Your teen may resist answering but they need to understand that building trust around curfews requires open lines of communication and responsible behavior on their end.
