The Music Manager And The PR S1 E18 PR Matters - The Public Relations Podcast

    • Marketing

Welcome to Series 1 Episode 18 of 'PR Matters - The Public Relations Podcast' where you'll learn all about music management and how public relations plays a central part in rocketing musical careers.

We talk to legendary music manager Natasha Maddison about her career managing and promoting American funk and soul jazz saxophonist, Maceo Parker, best known for his work with James Brown in the 1960s, Parliament-Funkadelic in the 1970s and Prince in the 2000s. Parker was a prominent soloist on many of Brown's hit recordings, and a key part of his band, playing alto, tenor and baritone saxophones.

What's it like being a music manager and how important is PR in this business? Natasha talks takes us through it and leaves us in no doubt that hard work and commitment is the only way to succeed. Managing the talent's ego is a huge part of the role and for the artist, mastering the ego is a sign of success. The ego gets a bad press - but It's the ego that helps us get out there on stage and perform in the first place. A balance is required.
