E062 - The Human CDJ w/Allen Aucoin - Drummer Allen Aucoin returns to the podcast for a wide-ranging interview about the latest evolution of The Disco Biscuits' sound. Allen shares the details of the fitness regimen that keeps him in tip-top shape, the meditation practice that keeps his mind quiet and clear, and the electronic drum sounds that have propelled Tractorbeam Mk3. There are lots of big reveals in this one, including the source of Allen's signature "thirst quencher" samples, the female pop superstar he'd like the band to cover, and the new instrument that he's recently picked up. But most of all, it's an opportunity for Allen to reflect on why 2024 has been, in his words, "the best it's ever been since I've been in the band." We round out the episode with another installment of our series highlighting covers of The Disco Biscuits catalog. This week, Max is joined by Mark Filorama, the director of the Ross Street School Choir, whose recent performance of Marc Brownstein's "Humuhumunukunukuapua'a" has caused a sensation in the jamband world.

Joining us this week is Nik Francis, the band's guitar tech. There's no one better qualified to analyze Barber's tone than Nik, and we were fortunate enough to have him give us a full, in-depth run down of the guitars, amps, pedals, and techniques that he and Barber use to create the band's signature guitar sound. This one is for the gearheads out there, but also for anyone else who's ever wondered how Barber does what only Barber can do. E060 - REVOLUTION IN MOTION Chapter 5 - Touchdowns All Day is proud to present the final installment of our five-part series exploring the making of the band’s long-awaited “Space Opera.” In this episode, REVOLUTION IN MOTION producer Derek "Cloudchord" VanScoten joins Max to talk about his creative collaboration with The Disco Biscuits. Derek first joined us on the pod way back in episode 23 to discuss his role as coach and technical advisor for the 2019 incarnation of Tractorbeam. Since then, his involvement with the Biscuits has only deepened, first via a trio of Tractorbeam-inspired instrumentals, and more recently through his production work on the band's new album. Derek walks us through his history with the Biscuits, his role in helping to break down barriers between musical genres and scenes, his philosophy as a record producer, and his favorite tracks on the album. As a prolific recording artist who's released countless albums, EPs, and singles spanning myriad genres and formats, Derek is uniquely qualified to put the Biscuits' evolving sound into a broader context.
