Partnering With the Spirit to Bring Out What the Text Is Really Saying

Partnering With the Spirit to Bring Out What the Text Is Really Saying

Sam McCabe, a singer-songwriter and worship leader from Houston, Texas, speaks with Mike about quarterly preaching, and the pitfalls and opportunities that are available to those who preach messages and then wait three months until the next time! He speaks about the dangers of being over-prepared, and the opportunities to meditatively think through a passage and its implications in the long gestation period leading up to a teaching. Sam also talks about the relationship between the teaching of the Word and the worship of the church - which one prepares for the other? Additionally there is some very practical advice on how late in the week a preaching pastor should suggest songs to the worship team!

Sam endeavors to craft songs that resonate with the depth and complexity of real life. From moments of profound joy to the depths of grief, from the peaks of hope to the valleys of loss, Sam's music explores the entirety of the human experience, intertwining themes of sanctification, doubt, and unwavering faith.

His artistic journey surged forward with the release of his 2020 single "I Want To Serve God," marking the beginning of a prolific career. Subsequent singles, such as "Christ Be In My Heart" featuring the acclaimed Kristene DiMarco from Bethel Music, and "Jesus Loves the World" featuring Leeland, further solidified his presence in the music scene. Sam's albums, "Altar Fire I" and "Altar Fire II," delve into the transformative journey of following Jesus, offering listeners a soul-stirring exploration of faith and spiritual growth.

Adding to his impressive repertoire, Sam is set to unveil his highly anticipated full-length live worship album, "The Death of Death," in early September of this year. Boasting collaborations with renowned artists including Pat Barrett, Leeland, Andy Squyres, and his own wife, Samantha McCabe.

Sam's influence extends beyond his solo projects, with notable cuts alongside artists such as Bethel Music, Maverick City, Brandon Lake, Chris Tomlin, and David Leonard.

How to Be a Good Guest Speaker, How Much You Should Tell Your Kids About Church Drama and So Much More!

How to Be a Good Guest Speaker, How Much You Should Tell Your Kids About Church Drama and So Much More!

Dr Philip Nation's work has included roles as a Bible publisher, revitalizing established churches as a pastor, working with non-profit organizations, curriculum publishing, and serving as a university professor. His personal publishing experience includes writing, co-authoring, and editing over 20 published works. Over the years, he has trained leaders in multiple countries around the world and continues to travel for teaching, preaching, and leader training.

Lessons learned from nearly 4 decades of expositional preaching, trends that he has seen come and go, and decisions that he has made to be a continual learner and to always be making progress as a preacher, and some very practical advise on being a guest preacher.

In the second half of the interview we speak about the positive and negative effects that church leadership can have on a pastors family. Philip shares some ways that for those of us who have kids in the house can help our kids to think positively about the church and have a confidence in the sufficiency of the word of God.

Great wisdom on tap here, I know that this is going to be a beneficial conversation for you to listen in on .

Using Outlines to Communicate Well - Brian Bell

Using Outlines to Communicate Well - Brian Bell

Brian Bell joins us on today's podcast as a distinguished guest, bringing with him a wealth of experience and passion. As the senior pastor of Calvary Murrieta, Brian wears many hats, serving as the main teaching pastor, Chairman of the Church Board and School Board, and the shepherd of the Calvary Murrieta community.

He speaks about the importance of developing outlines and their usefulness in clear communication as we preach.

Brian's journey in spreading the message of Jesus has taken him across more than thirty countries, focusing particularly on two unreached people groups. Alongside his wife Kelly, Brian has dedicated the past decade to combating human trafficking, advocating for justice for women and children both locally and globally.

Beyond his ministry, Brian's personal life is equally inspiring. He and Kelly, his high school sweetheart, have shared forty years of marriage, blessed with two adult children and five grandchildren. Nothing brings him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren, while surfing and hiking invigorate him physically.

However, it's his dedication to engaging with and supporting unreached communities that truly fuels his soul. Join us as Brian shares his insights, experiences, and the transformative power of faith in today's episode.

Not a Crowd to Be Feared, Nor an Audience to Be Entertained, but a Family to Be Loved - Trevor O'Keefe

Not a Crowd to Be Feared, Nor an Audience to Be Entertained, but a Family to Be Loved - Trevor O'Keefe

Trevor O’Keefe and Mike Neglia speak about Cillian Murphy’s recent Academy Award and other momentous moments in Irish history. Trevor also shares the wildest story about a debut sermon ever on the history of the podcast! (He nearly killed someone)

Trevor was a youth ministry for more than 17 years in Maranatha Chapel before transitioning in to the Lead Pastor role at Olive Branch Christian Fellowship in Poway, California.

In this stirring conversation they speak about boundaries in ministry, depression, anxiety, and the reality that a church gathering is not a crowd to be feared or an audience to be entertained but a family to love.

They have an extended conversation on the difference between vulnerability and honesty in the pulpit and oversharing and “bleeding all over your people.”
