    Keeping Doctor Appointments

    Keeping Doctor Appointments

One of the most important relationships you will have when it comes to your health is the one you have with your Primary Care Provider.  A good provider-patient relationship is a mutual partnership that allows the patient and provider to work cohesively to maintain your good health or address medical concerns you or your provider may have. One of the most important ways to do this is to keep your scheduled appointments.

Preventive care, such as annual checks ups with lab work, is one great reason to keep your scheduled appointment.  This is one way your provider can identify medical concerns or provide education that can lead to better health and prevent illness.  Prevention and a healthy lifesyyle are key to your overall health.

Another reason to keep your medical appointments is for appropriate management of chronic medical conditions that require ongoing treatments such as prescriptions and lab work.  Lab work can let your provider know if your condition is stable or if your medication needs to increased, decreased or changed in general.  It may also let your provider know if you need to be referred to a specialist.  Overall, regular appointments are key to a healthy outcome and may keep you out of the hospital, which can be very costly.

Prescription refills are another reason to keep your appointments.  Refills can be denied if you do not keep your appointment.  While this may be a controversial topic,  in general, a medical provider must weigh the legal liability of refilling medications for those who do not keep appointments that allow them to appropriately manage the condition requiring the medication.

A medical office is a business, therefore there are consequences for not keeping scheduled appointments.  One consequence is charging for no show appointments.  For those that consistently cancel and reschedule appointments or do not call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel appointment the ultimate consequence is dismissal from care.  When a patient is dismissed from care this can also include other family members seen by the same provider.  Most offices have a policy regarding appointments and allow a certain number before enforcing the policy.  Be sure to check with your providers office regarding their policy.

Communication is key!  If you can not keep an appointment, please call to cancel and reschedule the appointment.  By doing so you just made that time available for someone else that needs to be seen.

Some of the most common reasons for not keeping an appointment are transportation, unable to pay for the visit and conflict with the time of the appointment.  Let your providers office know why you can’t make the appointment. There may be other options to meet your needs.

Grayson County Health Clinic offers high quality medical and preventive care at an affordable cost and will work with you to schedule an appointment that works with your schedule.  We offer appointments Monday-Thursday from 7 am to 7 pm, Friday from 8 am- 5 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 12 pm. The clinic is also open during lunch.

Please call us for more information or to schedule an appointment and be sure to ask out about our no show policy so you are well informed.  You can reach us at 903-771-2846 option 1.

    A Little Bit About Us

    A Little Bit About Us

The Grayson County Health Clinic opened in 2013 to provide medical and preventative care to the underserved in our Grayson County Community. Since inception, we have served over 15,000 individuals.

GCHC provides multiple free services to patients thanks to federal, and state funding, as well as local support. Our services have improved the quality of life for those in need and saved millions of dollars in just the past five years.

GCHC has procured over $13,000,000 in free medications for patients that would have likely gone without medicine, through our efforts in navigating medication assistance programs and grant opportunities and has also provided over $50,000 in free lab work to our patients.

We strongly believe in serving our patients mental health, just as well as their physical health. Therefore, we have partnered with the Child and Family Guidance Center to provide our patients counseling services from a Licensed Professional Counselor intern at no cost. Our collaboration has provided over 440 sessions of counseling since 2015.

In addition to improving health outcomes, we have invested in our patients' holistic care by developing partnerships with local soup kitchens, crisis centers, clothing banks, youth services, churches, and many others to help improve our patient's lives along with their health.

To provide these essential services, GCHC is staffed with an incredible team including 1 executive director,1 office manager, 7 medical assistants/nurse, 5 front office staff, 2 nurse practitioners, and is currently supported by 23 Family Medicine Resident Physicians.

That is A Little About Us and we hope that you will join us for future pod casts were we will talk about the services we offer, policies such as keeping appointments and vaccines for children and podcasts about how to manage diabetes and other chronic diseases.
