How do I start a garden? How do I plant vegetables in raised beds?  What vegetables should I plant by seed? How do I keep pests away?  What vegetables should I transplant? What vegetables are easiest to grow?

And the biggest question of all, how do I learn to successfully grow a garden in my climate? If you are a gardener in California or a climate with hot summers, and mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures this show is for you.

I am a gardener in the Central Valley of California in Zone 9b and my goal for this show is to share actionable tips and advice that will help you grow food for you and your family no matter how much space you have. But the problem with gardening is that it varies from zone to zone and state to state.

So I will be covering gardening tips that may apply to all but when it comes to specifics such as when to plant and what crops to grow during each season, it will be based on what works for us here in Zone 9, California.

My mission behind Audrey's Little Farm is to help everybody experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from gardening. It's not only about the success of your crops or the size of the harvest. It is about the journey, the skills built, and the happiness that all comes from being outdoors and tending to your garden!

The Danger of Planting too Early

The Danger of Planting too Early

When you plant warm season crops too early you’re not getting a head start. In fact, planting too early may cause more harm than good! When you plant too soon when temperatures are too cool it can cause stunted plant growth, wilting, surface pitting, foliage necrosis, increase disease, and prevent healthy root development.

So even when somebody says to plant early to get a head start you need to make sure the weather is favorable for plant growth. In today's show I'll be going over all of the details.

Common Gardening Mistakes to Avoid in Zone 9

There are common gardening mistakes I see gardeners making season after season. Some are from a lack of experience which is completely understandable and nothing to be ashamed of because gardening takes trial and error and sometimes years of experience to really figure out, but the majority of the mistakes I see are gardening practices that come from bad information on the internet that spreads like a wildfire.
So in today’s show I’m going to be covering 9 gardening mistakes to avoid in your garden this season.

5 Summer Crops You Should Directly Sow by Seed

Directly sowing seeds is often thought of as an advanced gardening strategy. But it's really the opposite. It is such a simple gardening strategy that will give you so much more success in your garden this year.

In today's show, I'm going to cover five common summer crops that will grow better if you directly sow them by seed. They're often common crops that you're going to find at your local garden center or nursery. But that doesn't mean that you should transplant them.

If you live in a climate with a long growing season, I'd recommend direct sowing these crops. Listen to learn more!
