Christ, the Son of God

October 11, 2020

Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost — Divine Service, Setting Four

♫ HYMN 537 “Beautiful Savior”

Beautiful Savior, King of Creation, Son of God and Son of Man! Truly I’d love Thee, Truly I’d serve Thee, Light of my soul, my joy, my crown.

Fair are the meadows, Fair are the woodlands, Robed in flowers of blooming spring; Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.

Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight, Bright the sparkling stars on high; Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer Than all the angels in the sky.

Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, Praise, adoration Now and forevermore be Thine!

INVOCATION, CONFESSION and PRAYER

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19

Amen.

Our help is in the name of the LORD,

Who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:8

If You, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O LORD, who could stand?

But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. Psalm 130:3-4

We have come to hear God’s Word and call upon Him in prayer and praise. But first, let us consider our unworthiness to do so, and confess before God and anyone with us at this time that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition.  Let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of Almighty God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.”

Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen.

Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

INTROIT Isaiah 61:10, Psalm 146b

I will greatly rejoice in the LORD;

My soul shall exult in my God, for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation;

He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;

As it was
