A sample podcast for 5th grade students to create after reading “Island of the Blue Dolphins” by Scott O’dell. After the story is over, it is highly likely that Karana was interviewed in some way by any number of people. The purpose of this project is to imagine Karana in that situation and to imagine what kinds of questions she might be asked. Create a podcast interviewing Karana. Introduce her to the audience with enough detail that people who haven’t read the book will know who she is. Then come up with 3 questions to ask her about her time alone on the island and fill in what you think her answers would be. You might think of any questions you wanted to ask her while you were reading the book.
