Growing Voices is offered as an audio journey through the creative process to capture the sound and feel of youth and teaching artists collaborating ‘in the room’.

Are You Gonna Play the Game?
Episode 1 takes a behind-the-scenes look at the difficult, sometimes messy process of building an ensemble and creating new performance work. Youth build trust, courage, and create big ideas while simultaneously learning how to hone their performance skills. This episode features “Panic Attack” by Sage Kenaz-Mara and “I’m 18 and…” by the Collaboraction Teen Ensemble which was written by teens who were voting for the first time in the 2016 Presidential election.

Episode 2 follows the personal experiences and voices of Youth Artists and highlights amazing in-studio performances. Youth artists boldly display their courage in creating personal work. In interviews, youth discuss the vulnerability and power they feel in writing from the heart and sharing their experiences with the group.

Episode 3 highlights the sounds of live performance while also interviewing youth artists about their art and their city. Through their thoughtful and poignant work Youth Artists raise their voices in demand for a better world. Improvised rhythms by the Collaboraction Teen Ensemble provides transitions in the episode. Original music by Ella Rae speaks to the desire to “be your way out…”
