LTS 5: Black Women In Media

LTS 5: Black Women In Media

Provocative, risqué, disinhibited, over sexualized - this describes a common portrayal of Black women in media, television and music. The pornographic depiction of Black women sets far apart from the common depictions of other groups of women.

The entertainment industry’s devaluing of Black women has far reaching and potentially long lasting impacts on the audiences they target and all others exposed to the looping vulgarity that is urban media.

LTS 4: Navigating Life Through COVID19

LTS 4: Navigating Life Through COVID19

Your Sisters are back with Episode 4!

In this episode we discuss how to navigate through our new normal in the midst of the novel Coronavirus, COVID 19, shelter in place restrictions, social distancing, home schooling and more.

As you know Sister Chabree Muhammad is an educator and school administrator and Dr. Nicole Muhammad is a clinical psychologist. Both ladies provide valuable insight in how we can effectively manage in this unusual terrain while doing what we can to manage our and our families’ mental wellbeing.

We have included takeaways from this episode below.

    For parents teaching at home:

    •Pack your patience!

•Remember your children are now your students-so treat them as you would expect any teacher to treat students.

    •Take breaks as necessary.

•Get help and guidance by asking friends or your child’s teachers for ideas and resources.

    For educators teaching remotely:

•Do not give the family the same amount of work that you would in a typical full day’s class.

•Understand that not all students will be home with an adult to structure their work.

    •Alter assignments, deadlines and expectations.

•Create a survey monkey questionnaire to get an idea of what potential limits families may have or give parents your email address for them to email you those dynamics.

    Managing It All:

•Acknowledge the challenge of our new circumstances.

•Communicate! Communicate appropriate concerns to your employer and/or child’s teachers that may impact productivity and/or work schedule.

    •Strategically weigh importance of tasks.

•Seek Telehealth services for mental health treatment and services through your insurance provider when necessary.

•Identify something positive to be grateful for.

•Network and encourage students to be the same.

    •Get creative!

LTS 3: What Makes A Woman Strong?

LTS 3: What Makes A Woman Strong?

A meme came across the desk of Lead Teach & Style that said, “Strong Women Aren’t Simply Born. They Are Made By The Storms That They Walk Through.”

So in this episode, we are asking the question, "What makes a woman strong?"

    We also talk about:

•Why don’t we glorify the experiences of women who’ve walked the path of least hardship?

    •Why we promote ‘struggle love’

•The glorification of pain and hardship in the Black Community

•Why we should amplify the experiences of women who’ve chosen well

•Ride or die? I don’t want to die and I don’t want the ride to be bumpy!

Lead Teach & Style is a program that magnifies the path of success for the Black woman in America.  And because better outcomes require bold changes and smart choices-we want to share what we have learned in our own journeys that has contributed to our own success.

Share Lead Teach & Style with the young women and girls in your life to give them a fair start in this life!

    LTS 2: Setting Your Priorities

    LTS 2: Setting Your Priorities

What are your life’s most important concerns? Is this something of which you have given great thought?

In episode 2 of Lead Teach & Style, we share key areas of our lives that require our most careful attention and concern. Those areas are:

    Our children
Our spouses, family and key relationships
    Our health
Our spirituality (religious way of life)
    Our finances
    Our education

This is not a complete list and we will be sure to discuss more in future episodes.  We do believe, however, that this is a good start.
