Acceptance. When something bad happens—whether an existential crisis or a personal tragedy—the first step is to accept that it has happened.  Unlike prior crises, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, or other disasters, this crisis is not regionalized.  Everyone is a participant.  Once you accept the crisis for what it is, you can start to take the necessary steps to deal with it.
