A podcast where I talk about movies from the 30s to the 60s. I will be looking at the plot, themes, characters, funny anecdotes, and anything worth mentioning. The structure of the podcast will alternate between very famous movies from the time (eg Hitchcock) and lesser known movies that are definitely worth talking about. I will also be dedicating some episodes to specific actors and directors and looking at their contribution to cinema.

    10 - Casablanca (1942)

Here it is, one of the most iconic movies of old Hollywood, a movie that some people can quote without ever having watched it, a movie that will never grow old. “Casablanca”, released in 1942, directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart among other wonderful actors. What makes it such a classic, though? And is it really that good? I hope you enjoy!

    9 - Morocco (1930)

    9 - Morocco (1930)

"Morocco", the oldest movie I have talked about up to this point! And what a conflicting movie... couldn't tell if I was in awe or supremely disappointed. I guess a bit of both? Apologies for the more rambly structure of this episode, I suppose I wasn't quite ready to take on the challenge of speaking about concepts of gender in a coherent way but I sure gave it a go! There was also some more rambling than usual because this movie confused the hell out of me, if that doesn't become apparent by the end. If you aren't sure you want to listen to a rambly episode, I'll just say this: Marlene Dietrich. Enjoy!

    8 - Lolita (1962)

    8 - Lolita (1962)

"How did they ever make a movie of Lolita?" Scratch that, how did they ever make a movie of Lolita in the early 1960s with an actual 14 year old playing the role of the "nymphet"? Good question. Today I dive into the movie adaption of the 1955 infamous novel by Vladimir Nabokov. With nothing more explicit than a kiss on the cheek, Kubrick manages to convey exactly what is going on in this disturbing story. If anything to do with hebephilia upsets you and makes you very uncomfortable, I do not recommend listening.

    7 - Sunset Boulevard (1950)

    7 - Sunset Boulevard (1950)

Sunset Boulevard is a movie that cannot easily be labeled, which is part of what makes it so good. As reality and fiction blur, the audience starts feeling the slight suffocation so present throughout the movie... and find that they are unable to break away from it. Enjoy!

    6 - Rope (1948)

"Rope" is the first Alfred Hitchcock movie I talk about, perhaps not as well known as his other movies but definitely worth talking about! Join me as we delve into a disturbing story about murder and the insane justification behind it.

    5 - The African Queen (1951)

    5 - The African Queen (1951)

Today I talk about the iconic "The African Queen," the movie which won Humphrey Bogart his only Oscar (and with good reason!). With the help of Katherine Hepburn, this movie becomes thrilling, funny, and an all-around unforgettable adventure, and features some of the best acting of the 20th century. Can you tell I like the movie? Enjoy!
