Into The Wilderness Pt. 2 - Get Your Brave On
Pastor Kristi is back from NYC, and still riding that magical Broadway musical high. Good music and art will do that to ya! And that's good, because we need sustenance and reprieve in wilderness times - periods of our lives that present uncertainty and hardship, like...trying to get into your dream college. Or growing up with difficult and/or absent parents. And lots of other crap. Kristi and David talk about ways they manage to be brave while traversing the wild. Also...music from Sara Bareilles, and Tell Dave The News!

Into The Wilderness - Improv & Anxiety
Lent season is all about the idea of the 'wilderness' - those stretches of life that are uncertain, maybe a little dodgy, or perhaps downright scary. For the first episode of this 'Into The Wilderness' series, David takes over the podcast and talks about how social anxiety can be overcome with a few lessons in improv - with help from actor/comedian Matt Walsh. Prepare for your mind to be BLOWN. Meanwhile, Pastor Kristi heads to NYC to catch a few broadway shows. (She has agreed to perform her favorite song from 'Frozen' on next week's episode, so tune in).
Don't be anxious. Don't worry. Just embrace the wilderness with your friends at Uprising 8) -
If I Can See It, I Can Be It
Today on Uprising, Pastor Kristi and David talk about representation, a topic largely sparked by the latest Marvel box-office hit, Black Panther. What might a film about a black superhero mean to a whole generation of African American youth? And on the topic of movies, why aren't there more female directors? And more female pilots? And race car drivers? (You get the idea) What gets portrayed in the media has a lasting impression on people- especially kids- so maybe there's work to be done as far as gender balance. We explore that in 'See Jane', a movement started by Geena Davis that challenges stereotypes and empowers women via the media. We top it all off with a little Michael Jackson. That's how we do it on Uprising, y'all!

Ashes, Ashes, We All Fall Down
On Uprising today, Pastor Kristi and David are still working out their anger issues. Kristi is on the warpath after sub-par service at a restaurant, and David is 'butt-hurt' after being ghosted by a friend. On a more serious note, hearts are heavy as we reflect on the Parkland, FL shooting. The tragedy coincided with Ash Wednesday- Pastor Kristi imparts wisdom about this tradition and the meaning of the Lent season. Also, some impassioned poetry from artist 'In-Q' and music from Gungor. We live in crazy times, y'all. Hold each other tight as we search for beauty in the ashes 3

I'm Mad As Hell!
Pastor Kristi and David let it all out on this episode about anger. Bad drivers, finicky technology, rude Verizon reps...there's only so much a person can take! But maybe anger can be good for us. Jesus became so hot he started flipping tables in a temple. Ephesians says to be angry...just don't sin! Easier said than done, right? Especially when anger is literally wired into the oldest part of our brains. Also, James Taylor helps sing away our 'angry blues.' Take a deep breath y'all, it's Uprising!

Failing Forward
Nobody likes failing in life. I mean, duh. Failing is laaaamme. Interestingly enough though, it's the successful who are most acquainted with failure. Pastor Kristi and David talk it out. Kristi does her Oscar-nom rundown, Tells Dave the News, and drops some pastor-wisdom-bombs, like usual! David recounts the time he auditioned for a fairly big country artist. How did it go, you ask? (See title of this episode). Music from Florence and the Machine. It's Uprising, yo!
