The Secret to A High Performance Team

I bet not only me but also other individuals, no matter you are a project manager, a software engineer, or an agile coach, would have faced a tough condition that members chose not to reveal real problems in a projects, which made it hard to progress further. Sometime we shouted in our minds, “What the hell are you doing? Tell me the truth!”, but everything remained the same, and you had no idea what to do.

For example, my colleague, Sarah, was once suffered from disclosing the problem of being overloaded because she would be judged by the manager for not being able to handle tasks in an efficient manner, and thus she gradually became silent, not to mention proposing constructive suggestions to refine the working model.
It is psychological safety that matters to assist members reveal problems without fear. In most times, managers don’t understand it is them who cause members not to tell them the truth.
