Ace Brewing Company - Courtenay, British Columbia

Ace Brewing Company - Courtenay, British Columbia

Breweries can be a strong focal point for any community. Many of them align their name with the characteristics or features of their surroundings. Today I find myself mid-island on Vancouver Island in the town of Courtenay, British Columbia. Located on the traditional, unceded territories of the K’ómoks First Nation.

Ace Brewing opened its doors in 2019, and is proud of their Vintage Aviation theme reflecting the history of the Comox Valley and Canadian Air Force. I sat down with their head brewer Dan Lake.

Big Thanks to the BC Ale Trail for making this episode possible.

House of Funk - North Vancouver, British Columbia

House of Funk - North Vancouver, British Columbia

There is a spot in the lower mainland that has seen a major shift to an entertainment district in recent years, and that spot is located in North Vancouver. Located on the traditional unceded territories of the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh. The brewery House of Funk opened their doors a little over two years ago after seeing a gap in the British Columbia market. They have seen major growth and have even developed a sister brand to them. I sat down with owner Darren Hollett.

Wildeye Brewing - North Vancouver, British Columbia

In this episode, I find myself in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Located on the traditional unceded territories of the Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish and Musqueum. This area has seen a major boom of breweries opening in recent years, but there is one brewery that is a bit of an outlier on the map compared to the cluster of others. Wildeye Brewing is a quiet gem on the north shore, with a large tasting room and patio in the shadow of the surrounding mountains and trails. I sat down with the founder Samantha Lindeman.

Luppolo Brewing Company - Vancouver, British Columbia

Back in 2016 a new brewery opened up with something a bit different to offer. I’m in Vancouver, British Columbia. Located on the traditional unceded territories of the Tsleil-Waututh, Squamish and Musqueum. In the neighborhood of East Van, also known in the craft beer community as “Yeast Van” is Luppolo Brewing. They opened and have stuck to offering Italian style beers, while expanding their styles and food as well. I sat down with Brewer and Co-Owner Ryan Parfitt.

Main Street Brewing - Vancouver, British Columbia

Main Street Brewing - Vancouver, British Columbia

The neighbourhood of Mt. Pleasent has seen a major transformation in recent years, and a key establishment that has played a major role is Main Street Brewing. Situated inside a Vancouver City Heritage Building, which originally was a brewery when first built apart of the historic Brewery Creek district. I sat down with co-owners Nigel Pike & Cameron Forsyth.
