In this episode, Dr. Foojan Zeine chats with Dr. Donald Meichenbaum about anger, how to manage anger, how to recognize the signs of an abuser in intimate relationship violence, and much more. Dr. Meichenbaum is a psychologist and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Waterloo, Ontario. He is a research director of the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment at the University of Miami. Dr. Meichenbaum is known for his research and publications on psychotherapy and contributed to developing the technique of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). The American Psychological Association has voted him the tenth most influential psychotherapist of the 20th century. He was also chosen as the "most valuable contribution to the general field of psychotherapy" of that year by the Journal of Contemporary Psychotherapy. Dr. Meichenbaum developed the therapeutic technique of cognitive-behavior modification, publishing the 1977 clinical handbook Cognitive Behavior Modification: An Integrative Approach. This umbrella term describes treatments that aim to change overt behaviors by changing thought patterns and cognitive processes.
