Eating Out in Madrid | Neighbourhood food tours with Walk & Eat Spain Eat Out

    • フード

The first season focuses on community members who are also business owners here in the city to give you a deeper insight into who they are, why they have a passion for food and how they are coping during this time.

I’d like to take a moment to recognize our Patrons Adolfo, Karen, Johlene & Isotta & Andrea who support the work of this growing community on a monthly basis. If you would like to become a patron visit www.patreon.com/eatout

On our final episode of season 1, I am joined by Margit Sperling, founder of Walk & Eat Spain, a food tour company taking hungry visitors who come to the capital on handcrafted food tours.  Find out why she loves Madrid markets and the market culture in Spain, how she transitioned from being a food tour guide to owning her own company and why her neighbourhood of Malasana is so close to her heart.

What we discuss

The advantages of going on am organised food tour compared to planning a tour yourself

The market culture and why she loves heading to a market to experience so many different flavours in one place

How the coronavirus outbreak has affected business right now

Industry trends over the years within food and drink and the culinary scene of Madrid

Her favorite neighbourhood to walk, explore and take her customers

The future of eating out in the capital

Her favourite place to eat out in the city.

About Margit

Margit is originally from the Seattle area and has been in Madrid since 2007. She first came to Spain in 2000 for a college study abroad year in Granada. As soon as she arrived in Granada, she was hooked on Spain.

She's a passionate home cook and loves having access to Madrid’s great markets and market culture. She loves exploring Spanish villages and she especially loves getting to meet the producers behind Spain’s culinary treasures.

Spanish culinary history and the unique way of eating in Spain have always fascinated her and has worked for a number of years as a food tour guide. In April of 2019, she decided to start her own food tour business, Walk and Eat Spain, her way of sharing what she loves about Madrid with hungry visitors to our fantastic city!
