Ep 2: Dr. Maginnis talks about setback, mindset, learning, embracing challenges, and trusting the process.

In our second episode, Dr. Maginnis discusses the power of mindset to turn momentary setbacks and failures into opportunities to learn, grow, and develop skills that can help us perform and fulfill our potential in the short and long term.

He also talks about the reason we study academic subjects and are told to embrace the challenges that come with academics.

SPOILERALERT — it’s not about getting grades, going to a good college, or getting a job. It’s about developing your mindset in response to those challenges so that when you go to college and get your first job, you are ready to take on any challenge that comes your way.

Illustrating this point through the stories do famous athletes including Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James, Dr. Maginnis emphasizes 4 key character traits that will help you succeed at GP and beyond:

    1. Resilience

    2. Independence

    3. Integrity

    4. Effort

Ep 1: Mr. Gaiser tells his story - Prep Class of 1998, Athlete at Duke University, Professional Musician, & Prep Teacher

In the inaugural Episode of the GP Performance Podcast, Mr. Gaiser tells his life story from being a shy freshman at Prep, to becoming an NCAA Division 1 swimmer at Duke University, and, eventually, recognizing that he only wanted to pursue one thing: music.

As a professional musician, Mr. Gaiser has toured the country playing shows, headlined the 9:30 club (multiple times), and recorded over a dozen albums. Mr. Gaiser talks about the importance of doing what you love and never being afraid to pivot if you recognize what you are doing isn't fulfilling.
Ultimately, Mr. Gaiser's life story demonstrates what it takes to perform — self-reflection, pivoting, making sacrifices, and being social — all while always remaining open to growth and trying new things.
