Alex Masso - Make Music Day

Alex Masso is a busy man - he's an ARIA award winning musician with The Vampires, a teacher at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music, Manager of the Australian Music Association (AMA), and in 2024 he's managing the AMA's Make Music Day campaign.

Make Music Day is the international day of making music, held on the 21st of June each year. No matter who you are, where you're from or what you play, you're invited to participate.

Alex joined Cam and Eamonn for a chat about Make Music Day for 2024 and predictably, a broader chat about a bunch of other things, namely the resilience of the broader industry.

The NSW Government did something?! Looking at Sound NSW’s first report into live music | Music News

The NSW Government did something?! Looking at Sound NSW’s first report into live music | Music News

Sound NSW releases inaugural ‘State of the Scene’ report, which purports to be a “first-of-its-kind piece of social and economic research to better understand the current state of the NSW live music industry and to provide guidance on how to support the industry to thrive in years to come.

    Key findings:

90.7% of the NSW public who attend live music agree that live music contributes to the vibrancy of cities and communities.

90.9% of respondents who work in the live music industry agree that live music can be a powerful form of cultural expression, particularly for marginalised groups.

    $372.7m of ticket revenue generated

    Best places to go out:

    Metropolitan – Sydney CBD

    Regional – Newcastle

The high-cost operating environment is creating barriers to growth for the live music industry.

The high cost of living has made it difficult for people to attend live music events in recent years, and people are being more selective with their ticket purchases or choosing to stay in.
