Steve Pretty On The Origin of the Pieces Episode 1

Steve Pretty On The Origin of the Pieces Episode 1

Now that the height of the pandemic, when House Music started, seems a distant and distinctly weird memory, House Music is retired.
BUT Steve is back with a BRAND NEW podcast. Covering similar ground as House Music, and much, much more, this is a show that will help you to hear music differently, whether you are a listener, player, composer or music maker of any sort.
In this first episode, Steve lays out the format of the show, has fun showing his partner his frankly ludicrous studio, and writes a heavy metal tune about a primary school teacher.
So put 'Steve Pretty On The Origin of the Pieces' into your podcast app of choice, and get listening, reviewing, subscribing and all that stuff.
    Thanks, Quaranteam!

    Festive special

    Festive special

Steve chats with astronaut and musician Commander Chris Hadfield about making music in space, what to do if you break a guitar string whilst in orbit and how Chris' extraordinary career has always involved music. Chris ends the episode by playing his beautiful 'space carol' "Jewel in the Night".
Stay safe and have fun, quaranteam.

    Episode 8 - Series Finale

    Episode 8 - Series Finale

Musician and composer Steve Pretty takes you on a musical tour of your own house and your innately musical brain.

To close the series, comedians and husband-and-wife pair Rachel Parris and Marcus Brigstocke help Steve go through the postbag and answer some of your questions about music: Why do major chords sound “happy”? Why do most musical cultures have drums? Can anything count as music? And what’s it all for?
Plus, they talk about the links between music and comedy and tell Steve what they’ve been listening to during lockdown. Steve’s own partner in crime, Jo, gets to take a peek inside the shed.
Great fun for locked down families, friends or singles - or anyone curious to learn more about music. Steve can’t promise to turn you into a concert flautist, but this podcast will transform the way you hear and appreciate music.

Musician and composer Steve Pretty takes you on a musical tour of your own house and your innately musical brain.

With a little help from folk singer and song collector Sam Lee - and some nightingales in a Sussex wood -  Steve explores how single line melody evolves into harmony. He assembles his family to experiment with singing rounds. His dad, Stan, also makes a brief appearance to sing a traditional Australian ballad about a sheep rustler drowning in a pond.
Great fun for locked down families, friends or singles - or anyone curious to learn more about music. He can’t promise to turn you into a concert flautist, but this podcast will transform the way you hear and appreciate music.
