Arlan is the Founder and Managing Partner of Backstage Capital, a venture capital firm dedicated to minimizing funding disparities in tech by investing in high-potential founders who are People of Color, women, and/or LGBT. Started from scratch in 2015, Backstage has now raised more than $15 million and invested in more than 170 startup companies led by underestimated founders. In 2018, they launched a four-city accelerator program in Los Angeles, Detroit, Philadelphia, and London. Arlan is the author of “It’s About Damn Time” and “Your First Million” and host of the weekly podcast “Your First Million”.

eDisvovery AI uses predictive coding to train algorithms to sort documents by relevancy. Adoption of new technology is a slow process that begins with education and carries into planning and strategizing the implementation. AI is not a tool to be used blindly, it still requires fact-checking and human touch, especially when used in law. Thorough testing and human review are necessary to identify and mitigate risks and biases associated with AI tools.
