Is Your Business Missing a Key Ingredient?

Is Your Business Missing a Key Ingredient?

We're going to talk about a topic that I would call the intangibles. It's not something you can actually hold. The intangible can sometimes be soft skills. But they are also things that you truly can't quantify because they're not necessarily a skillset. My friend Daniel calls this "non-comp compensation".
When you're managing a business and a team, you want your A players. You want the best players on your team. And you want them to want to work for you. And you want those A players to run through walls for you. And stay with you, long-term.
    In this episode you'll discover:
Intangible ways to encourage employees that stick around long-term Giving the same thought and respect to your employees as you do your clients Examples of non-comp compensation benefits Full show notes: https://insidethelionsdenpodcast.com/podcast/episode23

Are Exciting Tactics Confusing Your Business?

Are Exciting Tactics Confusing Your Business?

When I do consulting, big companies are spending a lot of time working through and planning a broad strategy plan. And it comes from a place of - what is the objective? They are trying to figure out where they're trying to go and what they're trying to accomplish.
Then they map out the object down to a strategy level. And a lot of times we will use different tactics to implement the strategy. But when I deal with smaller businesses, especially in the sub $3 million dollar businesses, they get very very stuck in the tactics.
Today, I want to break down tactics vs strategy. How they're different and the mistakes I see a lot of small businesses making.
    In this episode you'll discover:
Tactics vs strategy - how they're different and the mistakes I see a lot of small businesses making
When there is not strategy in place, there is just random tactics taking place and wondering why they're not getting the long term benefits they're trying to achieve

The New Normal. Are You Heading Forward or Back?

The New Normal. Are You Heading Forward or Back?

In today’s episode I want to talk about the “new normal”. With everything that’s going on in the world, I hear a lot of people talking about things like:

"When things get back to normal…" "When the US starts to re-open..."
We’re not going back. We’re moving forward.

Don’t misunderstand this. There’s going to continue to be plenty of opportunities out there. But the notion of "quote on quote" going back to normal shows the mistake of the phrase. The phrase “going back” is by definition, the reverse of progress.

Being able to cut off conversation in meetings that isn't relevant to what you're talking about. The inability to ignore, is a fear that you're going to miss something. Keeping your head down and focusing on your own stuff.  The struggle with being authentic.
"If you know the problem, and you know the solution, that will eliminate 99% of your search. And then you can go right for the sources that have that information." - Julie Stoian

    Key Steps for Productivity:

Reading quickly - read vs. Listening. The ability to ignore, not absorb everything. Find that big domino - focus on the big objectives & goals. Focus - having the micro and the macro. Keep the circle of people you follow pretty small.
