The Importance of Reducing Moral Hazards with Students

In the United States today, we see more and more of these moral hazards happening before our very eyes.  Too many students who’ve been hovered over by parents, teachers, coaches and adult guardians are prevented from taking normal risks in adolescence. Eventually, those young adults don’t even know how to mitigate risk when it’s time to do so. In this episode, Tim Elmore and Andrew McPeak define what a moral hazard is, provide examples, and share practical ways you can reduce them with the students you lead.

Three Ideas to Handle Conflict on Social Media

Three Ideas to Handle Conflict on Social Media

We are now living in a world where uncivil remarks and rude behavior are normal to see on social media. Unwillingness to allow a decision to stand if we disagree with it, dying on every hill, or feeling like our views must be voiced are just a few other ways this plays out online. Far sooner than most of us are mature enough to handle it, we’ve been given a platform to voice our thoughts on every issue imaginable. In this episode, Tim Elmore and Andrew McPeak share three metaphors that serve as guidelines for you to discuss with your students as they build their personal brand and their own platform on social media. These ideas will help them discover how to maturely handle conflict in the world of social media.

Seven Symptoms of an Under-Functioning Parent

Seven Symptoms of an Under-Functioning Parent

Under-functioning parents can be referred to as “dry cleaner” parents.  In the same way that we take our soiled or wrinkled clothes to the dry cleaners to get them cleaned and pressed to be picked up on Friday, these parents drop their children off at schools, scouting programs, youth groups, clubs, and other such organizations to develop and “clean up” their child for them. Sometimes, these parents want other adults to do their dirty work. In this episode, Tim Elmore and Andrew McPeak share about the challenges, problems, and symptoms of under-functioning parents so you can strive to avoid their mistakes.
