From prison to the ring, and back: the boxer Mirko Chiari, after 104 boxing matches returns behind bars to teach boxing to prisoners. The story of the birth of the project Pugni Chiusi is intertwined with the voices of prisoners, and with the personal story of a boy who makes a back and forth movement from inside the civil society to its margins: the years of delinquency on the outskirts of Milan, the arrest and the fundamental meetings in San Vittore, the sports career and fighting. The narration gives back the human complexity of a figure whose redemption occupies only the space it can occupy, accepting that there continues to be a part of himself that is impossible to tame: in the search for a technical gesture that can dialogue with violence, the lives of former prisoners, teachers and coaches, lifers, boxers, their mothers and fathers are staged. Between the cells of Bollate prison and the rings of the provincial gyms, with a Milan of the margins to act as a springboard for some escape forward, Per essere Chiari is a narrative journey that hybridizes the truth with the novel, in an attempt to investigate what identity is with the tools of honesty and poetry.
