Watching activists at work is GREAT!
Still with you, staying WM uncomfortable.😝
I’m going to push the series with Jay Ellis as MC hard because seeing organizing and community work first hand brings me close in a way the most episodes don’t bc of my background. But everybody needs to engage with politics more, and the “hammers and saws” you use are the same for any community movement I think. Lots to learn here! I hope it will speak to other people like me, too!
OLD reviews:
Listening to episode starting with review of Blackklansman. Funny about the Panthers: yeah they (= open carry guns) scare me, and I don’t much like the stories about patriarchy in their movement, but I don’t recall reading that they initiated violence. Rather, they resisted. Courageously.
Review: as always, I find y’all annoying af. Keep up the good work!😁 (WM here, if you hadn’t guessed.)
As a professor, I wish you’d be more careful about deprecating research. The result that IQ is correlated with both scholastic and economic success is rock-solid, including within the same socioeconomic group. The mantra is “correlation is not causation: look deeper.” Anybody can learn this, including NPR reporters. I think if you’d repeat this instead of just labeling claims as “unscientific”, your listeners would be more resilient against Alternative Facts. Clint and Sam especially frequently do Look Deeper at the science. When appropriate they could say “this is what the mantra means.” Like a booster shot against the nonsense virus!
What is white privilege?
Honest and unflinching look at race in America from people of color, it’s a totally under represented view point which white people might find uncomfortable, but don’t give up on me.
