Coronavirus, Encouragement, and the 2nd Coming of the Lord Jesus

Coronavirus, Encouragement, and the 2nd Coming of the Lord Jesus

In this special message from Dave, he encourages us to look to Christ, to spend time in the Word and in prayer as we eagerly look to the 2 Coming of the Lord Jesus. You can either listen or watch this message by clicking on the video or the audio, or read this message here:

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Before I get started with this article, I want to say how thankful I am for each one of you and for your faithful prayers for Servants of Grace. We not only have an excellent team of writers here at Servants of Grace, but we have wonderful readers and listeners, thank you!

It is around 8pm here in California as I begin to write this article, and here soon, I’ll also put this in audio and video forms. I’ve been praying over the past few days about what to say, and honestly, my heart is sad but hopeful. Sadly, many people are dying from this virus all over the world. Christians should never rejoice at seeing people die, whether they are in America, Europe, or Asia. All people are made in the image and likeness of God and need the grace of God to deliver them from divine punishment. Thankfully Jesus has come and delivered such hope and grace in the gospel He bled, died, and rose for, and now empowers His people to proclaim on mission for Him through the Holy Spirit. It is hope in Christ; I intend to focus on this article.

We don’t know the date our time here on earth is over we just don’t. Hebrews 9:27-28 says this, “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” For the Christian, judgment is based on what we have done with the inheritance of Christ, we’ve received by faith in Him. This is why the inspired writer of Hebrews in Hebrews 9:28 says, “those who are eagerly waiting for Him” and in 1 Corinthians 3:12-15. 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 says, “12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.”

For the non-Christian, this will be far worse. Revelation 20:11-15, “11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

It’s easy to say as Christians that we believe in the 2nd Coming for the Bible speaks about the 2nd Coming twice as much as it does about the first coming of Jesus. But have you thought about the 2nd Coming of Jesus? I would venture to say yes, but have you thought about it at any depth and any length? Have you given it due consideration as you should? Paul, in 2 Timothy 4:6-8 says, “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness,
