Episode 8 - Godmonster of Indian Flats

Episode 8 - Godmonster of Indian Flats

Something Weird This Way Comes... is a movie podcast about campy and exploitation films from the 30's - 70's. Join our intrepid hosts Roo and Moe as they discuss the Sheepy Shocker -
    Godmonster of Indian Flats -

Oh, lordy lord, what does one make of this? Once upon a time, director FREDRIC HOBBS made a sex film called Roseland that turned out to be one of the weirdest, wackiest, oddballest sex films ever made. This time he's made a monster movie called Godmonster of Indian Flats that, no surprise, is one of the weirdest, wackiest, oddballest monster movies ever made.
Gaseous vapors from an ancient mine cause the birth of a huge, half-formed, squealing embryo which is taken to the lab of the local mad doctor where it grows into an 8 foot mutant sheep. Yes, that's right, an 8 foot mutant sheep. (Hey! Our first Sheepy Shocker!)
Meanwhile, the great STUART LANCASTER (Starlet, Mantis in Lace) is the corrupt mayor of an historical wild west tourist town (filmed in Virginia City, Nevada, a U.S. historical monument!) who thwarts the efforts of a black man trying to buy up land for a large corporation by attempting to lynch him!
Plans go awry, however, when the giant, fur-covered Lamb from Hell busts out of the doctor's lab and starts waddling across the countryside. Spewing an orange phosphorous gas, the semi-prehistoric "Godmonster" dances with a deranged hippie chick, lumbers into a children's picnic, blows up a gas station, and is eventually lassoed by cowboys!
But when Lancaster puts "the damaged mongoloid beast" on display as another tourist attraction -- "Feast your eyes on the 8th Wonder of the World!" -- the appalled townspeople freak, riot, and throw the monster in the town dump as a crazed Lancaster shrieks: "Make them pay! Make them all pay! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!"
Yow. This outrageous obscurity received a limited theatrical release in 1973 which must have given brain seizures to those lucky enough to see it unfold on the big screen.
In addition to Roseland, director Hobbs (who also wrote, produced, and takes credit for "monster design") also made the equally bizarre Alabama's Ghost. As Michael Weldon has already asked, "Who is Hobbs and how could he have escaped attention for so long?!?" There's also a funeral for a non-dead dog, and a brief cameo by ERICA GAVIN (Vixen) in a Reno casino. Regardless of what you think of it, watch Godmonster of Indian Flats and you'll at least be able to say, "No, I haven't seen that before." Amen!

Episode 7 - The Amazing Transplant

Something Weird This Way Comes... is a movie podcast about campy and exploitation films from the 30's - 70's. Join our intrepid hosts Roo and Moe as they discuss the Surgically Enhanced -
    The Amazing Transplant

This barely lucid, nasty sex-mystery with rapes galore bends the laws of logic so severely, a pretzel would seem linear in comparison. To put it simply, this is DORIS WISHMAN's penis transplant movie.
When Arthur (JUAN FERNANDEZ, a sometimes Wishman cameraman) abruptly strangles his fiance, detective Bill Barlen (LARRY HUNTER) investigates by interviewing an assortment of nubile young women from Arthur's past. One by one, they recount their violent sexual escapades with amorous Artie as detective Bill stares at their laps.
What has turned formerly dorky Arthur into a sex crazed stud-machine who turns rapist at the mere sight of cheap gold earrings hanging from cheap cold women?
The protuberant answer is found dangling in the office of Dr. Cyril Meade where Barlen eventually learns the amazing truth about The Amazing Transplant. Jealous of his late friend Felix's prowess with women, Arthur blackmailed the doctor into slicing off his inadequate, little-used cocktail weenie and replacing it with the virile, babe-magnet member of dead Felix.
Unfortunately, though sporting the spunky new spurter of Felix, poor Arthur is shocked to discover that he has also inherited Felix's funky fetish -- namely a desire to violently bounce atop any young woman wearing gold earrings -- an authentic phenomenon current medical books also refer to as "dick brain".
Seemingly written by a group of Swedish school kids just learning English and edited by a bread slicer, this is one of Doris Wishman's most outrageous, jaw dropping epics. (Though Doris directed it, the director's credit is given to the name of her then husband, Louis Silverman.) With KIM POPE (Sticks and Stones), slimeball supreme Larry Hunter (All Women Are Bad), wall-to-wall sex, and dialogue that always seems to be recited while the camera is looking somewhere else, The Amazing Transplant offers a psychotic look at a world where men think only with their dicks... even if their dicks are borrowed.
Believe me, nothing in Miss Wishman's previous works can quite prepare you for this. This Special Edition features a new digitally remastered transfer from the 35mm Wanker-with-a-Wish-List negative, the original theatrical trailer, trailers for Wishman's Deadly Weapons, Double Agent 73, The Immoral Three, and The Love Toy, and a Gallery of Doris Wishman Exploitation Art! Plus: keep your pecker happy with the U.S. Navy's archival short Sex Hygiene, and everything you always wanted to know about schlongs is explained in the short subject, "Penis Facts 1952" ! -- Marc Klapper

    Episode 6 - Bowanga Bowanga

Something Weird This Way Comes... is a movie podcast about campy and exploitation films from the 30's - 70's. Join our intrepid hosts Roo and Moe as they discuss the African Safari madness of...
    Bowanga Bowanga

Brace yourselves, folks, you ain't never seen a jungle film like this…. Traipsing through 'Africa,' Kirby and his pal Count Sparafucile (yes, that's his name) marvel at all the stock footage they encounter (including a sexy jungle girl and her pet gorilla who quickly disappear from the plot before things turn Forbidden Adventure on us) when Great White Hunter Trent stumbles out of the brush, half-dead and babbling: 'Ulama, Ulama… White Sirens of Africa!'
What's that? A tribe of white women in Africa? You betcha. And not just any ol' 'white sirens' but Fifties Glamour Girls in skimpy jungle bikinis! Trent tells them how and where he encountered a few of the girls and pretty soon all three are soon heading for the rocky plateau where the Ulama roam. Getting there involves the use of more mis-matching stock footage. So much stock footage, in fact, that it often feels like you're watching twelve jungle films at once. There are the obligatory stock shots of topless African natives as well as shots of any and every animal the editor could toss into the mix: leopards, hippos, baboons, deer, owls, and even a squirrel. (What, no polar bears?)
Once atop the Ulama plateau, our three he-men are promptly captured by the tribe whereupon the film turns into an Amazonian fantasy gone mad. All the women are not only white and in their twenties, but they all look like strippers in animal skins: 'What a charming bunch of chicks!' After a hilariously un-choreographed Ulama dance number, the Queen (DANA WILSON, who has lots of teeth and talks as if all of them are loose) welcomes them: 'Ulama like strong white man! Queen want strong white man!' In fact, because the Queen can't decide which strong white man she wants, she decides to force the men to fight and take the victor as her hubby: 'Queen make strong man husband! Fire God take weak man! Queen take strong man!'
But no, no, the men don't fight themselves, they fight other women. Sort of like a Ulama wrestling match. Kirby goes first, battles a nice tall blonde, and is beaten up like a little boy. The comic-relief Count has previously been deemed too inferior for a mate, which leaves Trent, who wins both his bout and the Queen's hand in marriage: 'You husband for Queen!' Kirby and the Count are quickly slated for sacrifice to the 'Fire God' (some kind of smoke-belching crevice at the base of a cliff) which greatly upsets the other Ulama: 'She no burn nice men! We take nice men! We get husbands too!' How will this all be settled? You guessed it: by a wild tribal catfight….
Wow. Jungle cheesecake has always been a pop-culture icon, but seldom has it been shown upon the screen as deliriously as it is here which turns the Battle of the Sexes into pure cheesecake madness. Make no mistake about it: Bowanga Bowanga (also known as Ulama White Sirens of Africa, Unashamed Women, and Wild Women) is nothing less than the Single Greatest Jungle Movie Ever Made.Digitally remastered from a mint Ulama-lovin' print. -- Mr. Daddy-O

Episode 5 - The Adult Version of Jekyll & Hide

Episode 5 - The Adult Version of Jekyll & Hide

Something Weird This Way Comes... is a movie podcast about campy and exploitation films from the 30's - 70's. Join our intrepid hosts Roo and Moe as they discuss the sex crazed...

The Adult Version of Jekyll & Hide
"It was sick then and it's still sick now!
Dr. Chris Leeder (JACK BUDDLINER), a gruesome looking guy (who's even scarier with his clothes off), find the notebook of Dr. Jekyll in an antique store. The store owner won't sell it to him so, like any good physician would, Leeder strangles the guy. The doc anxiously reads the notebook and, in flashback, we see Dr. Jekyll (also played by Buddliner) turn into a Mr. Hide who jams a giant candle between the legs of masturbating LINDA McDOWELL, then gleefully sticks a red hot poker up lovely LINDA YORK. Ouch.

But Neither the flashbacks nor the notebook's oblique warning that the formula makes "people appear as they really are" deters Leeder from mixing the potion, drinking it, and opening his shirt to reveal...an attractive pair of titties complete with implant scars! Lo and behold, ugly Dr. L has briefly turned into blonde JANE SENTAS (the wanton witch of the Hardcore Horror Sacrilege).
However, when Leeder learns that a detective suspects him of murdering the store owner, the disturbed doc decides to make the transformation a bit more permanent: "I've got to hide...Hide?! Yes, the girl! I'll hide as her!" Hence, "Miss Hide," who takes the doctor's place in a groovy dress and white go-go boots.

(After producer DAVID F. FRIEDMAN sent the publicity material out, a film exhibitor called to say he'd misspelled "Hyde." Dave patiently explained that he hadn't done a remake of an earlier version, and was instead, "selling skin, hide, pelt, epidermis, flesh, buff." "Oh," the exhibitor replied, "I get it.")

Leeder's nurse and paramour (legendary porn princess RENE BOND) quickly gets into a catfight with Miss Hide which, just as quickly, escalates into some heavy-duty muff munching. Then Miss H picks up a sailor at a bar and, for laughs, cuts off his dick. On a roll, she next pays a visit to Leeder's bitchy fiancÈ and decides to abruptly cancel the wedding...

I remember seeing both The Adult Jekyll & Hide and Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde within weeks of each other in 1972. Though the Hammer film was fun, it was this diseased puppy that remained embedded in my brain. Yes, kiddies, there was a time in America when you could go to the movies and actually see all kinds of sick and outrageous stuff up there on the silver screen and if anyone dared utter the words "politically correct" they would've been beaten to death. Sigh..."

    The Acid Eaters -

Buxom skin-goddess Pat Barrington (Mantis in Lace) is just one of THE ACID EATERS, a bunch of 9-to-5 working stiffs who become drug-crazed bikers on the weekend! After Miss Barrington kills a gal pal in catfight and the deceased inexplicably returns as a girlfriend for wacky artist Artie, the group enters a pyramid made of giant LSD sugar cubes (!) which is also the entrance to Hell (!!) where Artie suddenly turns into The Devil (!!!) and everything explodes into one big Acid Orgy...whoa. Easily the Sixties' most insane mix of sexploitation and psychedelia, David F. Friedman's THE ACID EATERS is soooooo out there that even the strongest of minds may become unhinged.
