As Jesus continues to teach us about the end of the world, he wants us to grasp that the governing reality for the age between his ascension and his return is the proclamation of the gospel of the kingdom. As we understand this, it will help us keep going, and keep focused as we confidently await his return.

The temple being destroyed doesn’t usually keep many of us awake at night. Yet, it seems to matter enough for Jesus to warn his disciples to not get distracted. As we look back with confidence at this event which has taken place, we can have confidence in our King that he will surely come.

No one likes spoilers, but sometimes it can help to see where things are going in order to keep going to the end. The final chapters of Daniel show that the future is a book that God has written, and its end is designed to help us to stand firm through whatever comes our way.

In these final chapters of Judges we see the catastrophe that follows when people do what is right in their own eyes and there is no deliverer. At the same time, we sense the kind of deliverer that is so desperately needed.
