Some time ago, I was chatting with a secondary school mate of mine who got married recently and he confessed to liking me back then at school, but due to my stance (which was quite ‘harsh’) he couldn’t express himself. He just got relieved after giving a voice to his thought even after being married, you can imagine! To say I was shocked is putting it mildly, because we are talking 15 years ago here. I have had other experiences such as this; where some friends told me several years after how they would have wanted to date me, of which I wouldn’t have minded. But they never said a thing!
I was a Tom-boy while growing up, so it was quite easy relating to guys and even sharing their thought pattern. Some of my male friends who related well with their female counterparts, usually developed cold feet when it gets to making their feelings known to a particular lady. The male folks are not the only ones affected by this syndrome; ladies suffer the same as well as they try to hide their feelings while gauging their friends’ reaction to their choice in the course of their discussion. I usually had a good laugh at that whenever we get to gist about it; both with my male friends as well as amidst my girlfriends, but in the actual sense what is the big deal in saying those words. If I may ask who is deceiving who & having emotional stress?
My point is this, speak-up now and probably face the rejection now which will soon fade away than to live in regrets. Though I still can’t figure out how a lady can suddenly become a ‘terror’ to a guy when the issue of the heart whether love or marriage comes to the fore (guess it’s part of the mysteries of life).
Oftentimes, not expressing these feelings can be a threat to the future home. In the sense that; imagine this scenario (It seems I’ve seen a situation like this in the movies); Guy A likes Lady B and it’s possible Lady B also likes Guy A but as a cultured lady, she waits for Guy A to speak-up and unfortunately Guy A feels Lady B can’t like him that much and so does not say a thing. After a while, they lost contact and go their separate ways without knowing each other’s mind. Guy C met Lady B, made his intentions known, and since she probably doesn’t have a long list of suitors, she accepts Guy C’s proposal believing the love will grow overtime and Guy C’s financial stability further encourages her to stay. Guy A also met Lady D probably to just fill the gap but they both got hooked up.
Family 1 (Lady B & Guy C) and Family 2 (Guy A & Lady D) might start to have serious challenges e.g for Lady B it might be financial issues the initial attraction to Guy C and for Guy A it might be fertility issues (Lady B has children & Guy A is very comfortable)…so what do you think? Are you getting the picture? As fate would have it, Guy A & Lady B met somewhere, and hooked up for lunch just to catch up on what’s been happening in each other’s lives (no harm intended). In the course of their reminiscence, Guy A unconsciously expresses his thoughts and Lady B is shocked to hear that because she also liked him but didn’t know he felt the same way towards her. Now they both have internal crisis with various thoughts going through their minds. What do you think will happen? Is it not possible an affair will start? Is temptation not knocking already? Are they going to yield? Will they (or not) compromise their faith? Let me leave you to think about it and allow you to share your thoughts via your comments.
What is the point in this, rejection should not be an issue, so many people were denied admission in some schools even at secondary level. Assuming because of the fear of failure, denial or rejection we refuse to write O’level & UTME exams, how are we going to proceed further or even know our abilities?
TO THE GUYS: This time around I mean MEN that are serious, responsible & ready for commitment, take up the challenge to speak-up, don’t ‘spiritualize’ the issu
